In canvas a1 google+ app accumulates 400 to 500 mb data every few weeks. This happens after the 5.1 ota update ... Is this some kind of a memory leak as well ? Or is it normal ?

My main problem with the new update is now my Wi-Fi has been severely affected. Even Google's own apps have slowed to a crawl! I feel like I'm stuck on the early 90's dial up! Tried the factory reset and the phone reloads the update during start up. This is ridiculous! Come on google y'all are better than this! How long will I have to deal with this before it gets fixed? HHopefully not so long that I have to go to ios!

RAM "consumption" shown under Linux(which Android runs on top of) is kind of a misnomer due to caching: with winblows, the Task Manager shows memory seemingly being free and clean as soon as its released, while under Linux (and I'm assuming the BSDs including OS-X) shows it as cached (dirty with old data that can be re-used if necessary). I think some other winblows utilities show the true situation, but I don't know.

Anyway, the same can be said by what Android is reporting. The only way to know if something is really leaking is to see how big a running process' heap size is in (human) real time, which is shown on the command line by "free" or "top".

This link should help clear it up. A cursory reading shows it's a little out of date, but 90+% of it is still correct:

Really sucks with 5.1 update to Nexus 5. Why RAM consuming more. When i restart phone RAM memory shows 1.3GB free after an hour it shows only 300MB free. Only one game i have that is Clash of Clans. Why google is not concentrating on the performance. Application get crashed sometime. Google you need to rewamp ur complete OS to light weight.

I don't understand why this still is never fixed. Android is a mature system and memory leaks should be a piece of cake for the giant.

My Instagram has this issue quite often daily and its not a heavy application.

Seems like they're employing techniques to save memory and improve performance on low RAM phones yet this probably causes the memory leaks.
