Disadvantage of 1616 :
-Often restart if you are not handle it carefully
-The sound quality is worse than other phone's brand.
-The navigator keypad is not smooth.
-Signal receiver is located in the grip of my hand.
-The speaker is not loud.
-The cover is not strong enough.

I used Nokia 1616 and also 1800 both have sound problem
so i recomment not to take both, take any other nokia set.
But no Batery issue.

A: Profitability dictated by the need to secure tomorrow's market by avoiding commoditization.
When you think big, it becomes clear that producing "really old" stuff eventually becomes more expensive then producing "just old" stuff. ;-)
Of course, I'm not even talking about the benefits of pervasive technology to the entire society as a whole, since it's not what (directly, at least) moves the companies forward.

A: Believe me, they do. Some of them just want the best of their buck, and don't want old tech if it's about the same price (see answer 1). Others go for the flashier phone... others for bragging rights of saying that they have GPS (I know...). I'm not saying some habits are good for the community or the planet, but stil...

A: This is a guess of mine. I guess that "ex-mid/top" models are actually more expensive than today's cheap models that have the same technology features (say, GPS, 3G, 5mp cam etc.). Sometimes the build quality of the oldies is "very good" (too much aluminum, individual keys), things that don't change in value along the time.
Truth is, some natural resources are actually becoming more expensive, and that's why you don't want to maintain the build quality for the "old tech", and you gotta make them wish the "new tech". So, as an example: in the future, it will make more sense to build a "cheap" N95 (N95 tech, but "cheap") than to keep producing the true N95, that is expensive and may be commoditized by then.
Of course, this is all my guess, after all.

To the targeted users, do you think they can tell / really care about the differences in "technology" in LOW END phones like 1100/1210/1600/161 etc...?
If these users can't even tell / care the differences, why not simply keep producing the old models? (instead of putting some unsold old models to the landfills) If they want so called "upgrades", why not simply use "ex-mid/top of the line models" like 6230/6233...or even 8310?
Almighty brand's experts, I know you have the answers...so come on out!

They represent only 85% of the world (you "can" see 8 out of 10?). If only they had money, they would be considered. thou art a great philosopher. (Will you understand one day?)

you guys are not seeing the big picture, these are for the low-end market, some of their old lowend model are discontinued and although they have the same features, technically they're still new technology [for the kind of market i must note]
means that nokia [and all other brands] still keeps in mind their customers in countries that are not as rich as america, or those people that just want a simple / basic phone functions
this is what i call strategic placement of a company on all social classes.
not all can afford high end touchscreen units, some [like my dad who lives inte philippines] just wants to have basic stuff on his phone. because of these customers, companies like nokia still create low-end phones to caters these peoples needs.

Since you're the expert on the almighty brand's products, why this company constantly releasing so called "new" models, where the targeted consumers cannot tell / care the differences between the old and the new models?
Do you really think these consumers really care the differences between 1100/1200/12xx/1600/16xx etc...? If not, why keep releasing new models? So the unsold old models (and the manuals, chargers, etc...) can be sent to landfills in 3rd world countries to "create jobs" there?

Nokia probably get more publicity in this end too because the main consumer body where i am wants nokia handsets only in this range. the s30/40 imterface is so simple and well received, which is why reports from places like gsm are usually about nokia. other brands low end handsetsjust don't amount to anything unfortunately :)

Its really surprising to me as always that how a low end phone can have the facility of torch feature well as an high end phone does not support that all important feature. If battery issues are there on a heavier handsets then so be it, as it is most of the multimedia handsets need a daily dosage of charging, so why not have such a important feature also added ? Nokia are you listing ? !!

That is why Nokia is number one, they have 3.5mm audio jacks even on their lower end models. R.I.P SE, and all other manufacturers that still produce phones without 3.5mm audio jacks.
