But Snapdragon 801 was only about 30-40% faster than Snapdragon 600 / Exynos 5410 of S4. Snapdragon 600 in turn was only 50-60% faster than the quad core of S3. So on terms of raw power it seems we're speeding up, in terms of actual performance , depends because many things take precedence there. Like emmc performance, software optimization, etc.

But comparing yearly advancements compared to, say, 2010~2011 to 2013~2014 there's been a noticeable drop in processor performance increase per generation. Not to the extremes we see in the desktop space, but it's slowly making its way there. LPDDR4 combined with A72 looks like this may break the trend, though.

Samsung is offering 40-50% better performance each year. Every "18" months doubles the performance. Apple does sth similar.

Qualcomm? After releasing the same processor (slightly overclocked each time) for two years in a row they decided to abandon it for sth way worse (snapdragon 810)

This is wonderful news for people that are on a budget and still want to own a high end device. I still have a OnePlus One and it works great! Has a big enough battery, large vibrant screen, amazing camera with 4K recording.. might even go as far to say that it's basically future proof. & for the price you can't argue.. it's ptros over weigh it's cons.. Buy this device and look no further!

Even Snspdragon S4 Pro is still relevant, at the current state of technology.

The tech-advances in the smartphone premium-segment nowadays are gimmicky and incremental. Who needs 1440 x 2560 anyway? I could easily buy each and every newly released premium-model out there, but I choose to keep my trusty OnePlus One - at least until OnePlus Two comes along. This phone have great batterylife and it comes with some features unique to OPO.
