One step forward, two steps back!
Germany, for example requires a written manual be included with each smartphone, in German. Wouldn't it make more sense to put a QR code sticker on the box which would link the user directly to a web site in his local language?

Bottom line is how much discount are consumer get in exchange for phone that doesn't come with charger, would Xiaomi use excuse such as since consumer are using third party charger they can void their warranty under certain circumstances ?
If I don't get charger come with original factory, probably I have no choice but to buy after market fake brand charger this would increase the risk to fire & damage phone.
I change phone every 2-3 years, so by the time I get a new phone the charger would reach end of it cycle & I'll need a new one.
Xiaomi claimed reason they do not have micro SD card slot is due to too many low quality Micro SD card that may potential cause problems to their phone, yet now they are promoting consumers to use low quality charger.
Oh come on stop been so petty over a charger to your customers, Xiaomi no longer the sole value for money phone you know, we can have Lenovo, Huawei, Meizu, ZTE, Gionee & many more.

In these days of throwaway electronics, are chargers generally designed to last significantly more than 2 years? Is Xiaomi saying that their chargers can last, say, across two further phones upgrades (which would entail 6 years of daily usage)?

When a phone catches a fire or so, 90% of the reasons come out to be using local chargers and batteries.. And xiaomi is welcoming the fact more and more.. With no charger, people would ususally fit it in any of the local mades and leading to danger. Hope it helps.

This is purely a cost-cutting move with a PR spin on it to make them look like environmentally sound and a good manufacturer to the people.

Charging a phone with a tablet (high mAh) is insane. It will kill your battery before long. In fact the amperage of the charger should mirror how big the battery is. If it's already small enough (phones) one cannot afford "burning" li-ion cells...

So -no- the "one size fits all" is mostly bullsh*t.

I know that some folks may Crib, But it's very Sensible and i welcome the idea, in fact its long overdue, most of us have chargers laying around us at home/work etc, all i need is JUST the PHONE, no need for Charger, Cable or Headphones.
This Move will Pave way for Phone Accessories Makers to make Power adaptors of Different types -Namely Dual Charging port(Charge 2 device), Fold away pins(Easy storage) etc. And Manufacturers can fully Concentrate on the Phones. Nice Move Xiaomi, hope others Follow..

It makes 100% sense to remove chargers from the box. They also Gail to mention that it reduces box size, meaning less weight for the box and smaller size so less impact to shipping.

As long as they make the charger cheap to buy separately and take off the cost from the phone price
