The bigger question is whether a single CHINESE phone company even needs to make it into the tiny USA market?
One thing is if you look at Chinese phone makers in general, they make almost ALL of the world's cellphones! If it's not the Xiaomi brand, then it's another, and they're all taking over the USA market for phones (don't even remember if Moto is still making any in the USA).
Many cellphones have now become 'commodity' products - smae 13MP Sony camera module, same screens, same RAM, etc., so to minimize per unit costs, better to make and sell phones in the world's largest market, China, rather than try and enter the US market.
(which also has more troublesome lawyers and lawsuits - where else would a company like T-Mobile stop selling the ZTE Zmax simply to come up with a new warning to users not to open the back cover to mess with the non-replaceable battery... like the manual stated already?)
The iPhone 6/6+ is selling in droves in China not because it's the best, merely because it's new and expensive - a status symbol for the wealthy. Same reason you have foreign vehicles selling over there as well, even in the millions of dollar per car; or expensive Swiss watches.
China's reached the point where it's adding more millionaires per day to the rank of the rich than other countries, and these rich have nothing better to do with their money.

They need to ship 8x the phones if they want to take Samsung's place and it will take alot more markets than just two (albeit the two largest) to do it. Please give me your specific numbers regarding the distribution of wealth because as of 2014 it was 50% US/Europe, 33% Asia and 17% other. Look it up instead of just claiming all the money is in China now. (And I've been working in China fir the last 10 years, too)

Unlike those poor western country who depends on carrier to subsidised their phone, Asian prefer buy off contract phone with cash.
Asian too change phone more often than Western who tide with 24 months contract.

More people are in east, but there's still more money in the west. According to some people's logic here every company in the world should just focus on China and India and abandon the rest of the world.
