I own this phone & use it. Its GPS has helped me to get in time to a ferry terminal in an unknown city on my motorbike. Strapped to my tank bag, it routed me visually through a maze of traffic, I was totally impressed. I also had it next to a Tomtom in car in Europe and in the end preferred the 2710 as it was faster announcing turns and was just a loud and accurate - in fact made better choices on German Autobahns.

I have been trying to download updated Australian map for the past 13 months. Now I am told that no new maps are available and will never be. The test I have used for a upgraded map is the inclusion of a now 18 month old, 5.4 km, six lane section of the Gateway Motorway near the Brisbane Airport (Queensland Australia). I am told that my 13 month old phone is obsolete. They are still on sale in Queensland.
Nokia call centre is useless. Poor phone lines and English appears to be a third language if that. They speak to fast and are not willing to comply with their sales blurb about lifetime map upgrades. Apparently the Nokia phone uses #2x mapping and cannot use the #4x upgraded mapping for the later more expensive phones. Nokia are reviewing my complaint this weekend since I sent two emails to Finland head office and I am about to lodge formal complaints to the ACCC and fair trading over misleading and deceptive conduct.
Their solution is for me to purchase a new far more expensive phone if I want an updated map even though the 2710 comes with lifetime free map updates!
Nokia care service cannot supply you with the phone number of their service agents, their australian office, nor their legal representative in Australia or much else. Every person you talk to or try to talk to has always have to refeer to somebody else for an answer but will not let you speak to them directly.
These international phone companies do themselves little good with such impossible service. Just because hey want to produce a new model phone week by week they also want to make your phone obsolute very soon after you purchase it. At least Microsoft give warnings as to when they consider you operating system not supported. Why has Nokia not recalled all of their obsolute phones from stores around the world?
Especially when they carry the message free lifetime map upgrades which will never happen?

If you turn a-gps (assisted gps) off you still have gps for free. Works great for navigation.

I have this phone (unlike some of the other people posting comments). I wanted a phone that would tell me where I parked the car + lead me back to it late at night. Simple. BUT I didn't want a contract phone and I didn't want to get data charges for downloading the whole time I had the maps on. I am a woman on her own who has to go to different towns that she doesn't know often late at night.
It comes with your home country map on it and you can download any other in the world for nothing. You can update them via your home network again for no extra charge. The size of the screen? As you are listening to the voice guidance most of the time, it's not a problem. If I am going a long distance I have a regular TomTom for that. It shows all things like shops, petrol stations, etc. AND the maps will go for 6,yes 6 hours.
Mine had Opera mini web browser on it (and it is a lot easier to use than other phone ones I have used), which is great and the browser I use at home anyway. You can get push emails (data charge), or just web ones. It has a radio, and the music player is great. It will play mp4 video's which you can flip sideways. The software will convert them for you, just drag and drop. The camera is the only let-down, but fine for taking pic's in a traffic accident, etc.
OK it's not an iPhone, but it costs next to nothing to run, mine was £97 and came with everything (except I would probably buy a bluetooth headset) - home charger, car charger, USB cable, headphones and mic, cradle and stand for the car. I have paid £20 for a car charger before... The keys are easier to use that you would think, as they are quite small, but they are "clicky". The only thing that does bug me, and to watch out for, when you plug it into your computer via USB be aware that it is NOT charging, it's just exchanging data. You have to use the charger. Which I think is really stupid, that it's not doing both...

I want to know that 2710 navigation will require internet connection for GPS navigation. My meaning is i want to see maps worldwide without any extra charge to be paid for service provider. Please give me clarity whether this phone GPS function works directly to a satellite connection without need of service provider(A-GPS). My need is to view world maps with the assistance of direct satellite. No extra charge to be paid to service provider apart from normal call charges. Please focuss me & clear on this confusion

This phone is a good idea. There are a lot of people that want the Nav features but not all of the smartphone features. It's good that Nokia packages the odd throw-in with their low end phones. Now they just need to throw that stuff in with their high end phones.
