Exclusive: Gmail will soon let you have a custom email address for $2 per month

17 July, 2015
It seems Google is ready to launch a new custom Gmail address feature for standard Gmail users. While it has been possible for Gmail for work users to have a you@yourcompany.com address, if you are a standard Gmail users you would pretty much be stuck with the standard id@gmail.com address forever.

AnonD-179801, 23 Jul 2015How will Google protect us against fraud/scam? For example ... moreYou have to have control of your domain in order to point your main DNS records to gmail's servers. In addition, Google gives you a special code to add to a text record in your DNS as additional verification. I couldn't just sign up for Microsoft.com and start getting emails for billgates@microsoft.com, and there are plenty of tools OTHER than gmail for people that want to spoof their "from" address.

How will Google protect us against fraud/scam? For example can I register as johndoe@.com and being really bad here? I would assume there will be more phishing scam effort from this feature. This should raise our precaution in receiving mails.

$24/year is perfectly reasonable, as registering a custom domain name runs around $12/year. It's good value for money and you don't have to manage DNS settings!

Cheap minded individuals should never be in business, it destroys the legitimate business interests of those of us who actually understand the basics of Business 101. Just because you don't haven't made Google's billions with your "business skills" doesn't entitle you to slam google for their success and innovation. Wake up!

Too much .. for a company like Google personal email ID should not be more then $0.99 / month or may be less, they still make billions, $2 still too much.

It seems to me that Gmail is still free if you have USERNAME@gmail.com. If you want to have USERNAME@sunnydays.com or something, that is when you would pay.

I've had this for a while as an individual user. I registered as a business user before Google started charging for Apps for Business. Bought my own domain and just linked it.
