Limited edition Mondaine Helvetica 1 smartwatch now up for pre-order

03 August, 2015
Fans of Swiss watches may have been a bit apprehensive about smartwatches since they mostly focus on the digital side of things. The Withings Activite was a step in a more analog dimension (and with the coveted "Swiss Made" label), but now there are more options with the Mondaine Helvetica 1.

Nice. Looks a lott like the Withing Activie take on smartwatches. More an activity tracker than full blown smart device, but I like it. Sure, it's expensive (more than a chinese rubber bracelet), but an Omega, Rolex are way beyond the 950$ of that one and have no smart functions.

This is nice but can't really called it a smartwatch. Don't even have an interactive display. More like a medical watch with all that features. Just a normal high quality with premium material type of watch. $950 for a watch like this is reasonable but is it worth it?

Regardless to my taste, the "classical" watch design is timeless, whether apple's watch looked outdated from the day 1.
BTW, I'm a Windows Phone user, so most (if not all) of the smartwatches are useless to me anyway.

It's a quartz movement, most likely made in a "Chinese sweatshop," whatever this means.

It's overpriced for what it does, the design is "bleh," but your comment clearly shows that there is a market for it.

I think $950 is pretty rational, since it's combining the smartwatch technology and the fine quality of an analog watch

$950?? I thought the Apple Watch was expensive, but this is crazy for an analog watch! A Moto 360 looks better, is just as functional, and is a fraction of the price.

Does this even have a display, or does it rely on the phone/phablet to display anything other than the basic watch functions with hands?
