EU fails to find any illegal activity from Apple Music, but the affair is still far from over

08 August, 2015
Apple Music is now a little over a month into its existence and yet the Cupertino streaming service has already managed to stir up a lot of controversy and make more than a few enemies. Like most new Apple services, its music streaming platform was launched with a flying start - a rich library of music already acquired and about 11 million subscribers already signed up (9 million of which on a free trial, but still).

Anonymous, 08 Aug 2015I sense a lot of bitter in this article! The App Store has ... moreWell it's anti-competitive, if you only allow for one app-store, and that app-store pays you revenues.

It's anti-competitive, if you use your dominance in one area to gain dominance in another.

If Apple had 90% of the smartphone market, or thereabout, they would have been forced to allow for other app-stores, wihtout jail-breaking your phone.

This time, they force install Apple Music, on all devices, making it the default streaming services.

It's a bit different with google. They do allow for other app-stores to be used. But even still, with the MS internet explorer debacle, it's shown that, that is not enough.
However, since google only supplies the OS, and it's then up to OEMs to chose if they want the google package with play store. Or only have another store. Or both. Google can't be held resposible, and thus are free from those kind of speculations.
Google only have the Nexus line, and that sells in very low volumes.

I definately think that Apple is anti-competive, in this case.
I think google are too, but they as I said have a way around it.

I sense a lot of bitter in this article! The App Store has the most extensive selection of apps available compared to competing platforms, so to accuse Apple of anti-competitiveness here is difficult. I don't have any favorite in this race, so I wish Apple Music all the best, and hopefully it will keep Spotify, Pandora, and co. on their toes.
