The problem is that the 1st (August) patch provided by Motorola doesn't actually solve the problem, because the 1st patch provided by Google to all its partners was useless:

adeeb, 08 Aug 2015windows phone might be the only safe O.S currently.No. This article is bullshit. It only affect android version 4.0 and below. Newer android version is safe. Thats why Samsung and LG working with Google to release security updates at least once per month for android Froyo and newer.

"Protection:
1. Update your device: Keep your device updated to the latest version at all times. If an update is not available for your device, manually install an OS like CyanogenMod that support older devices for a longer period of time.
2. Disable Auto-fetching of MMS: You will need to disable this for both Hangout and regular messaging apps."

Anonymous, 08 Aug 2015This bug was a major story. Why did GSMA not report about it?Because if they did, the buyers of low and mid range smartphone will bombard Google with angry emails. Because ya know, Google and big oems never give latest updates to low and mid range smartphones.

what people think about this bug is laughable. Turning off MMS will not save you from this bug. The problem is with the video encoder that is build in Android. If you run a malicious video file then this bug will trigger. And yeah good luck if you got a low or mid range smartphone because you will never get the patch. :(

The thing is that the MMS is received automatically by your phone so go through settings and disable auto MMS receiving feature and don't accept MMS from strangers.
Does Viber has any vulnerability ? I don't know.
Could be there some other bug ? maybe and that is why a lot of antiviruses takes a lot of permissions including reading SMS and dialing numbers.

MK, 08 Aug 2015i run this test through this application and its giving the... moreMost people don't use MMS anymore ,so what you have to do is basically going to the massaging app and go through settings and disable automatic MMS receiving.
And when someone strange (or a friend who is a high profile hacker) send you an MMS, just don't open it. ;)

i run this test through this application and its giving the result VULNERABLE as showed in the app pictures in this post. now i want to know what should i do. i always get My message name application in my task manager without my permission sometimes i just killed it but it pops out by itself anytime. its kind off app or mms i dont know but it has name MY message. so can anybody tell me what should i do now. Am i the victim of this threat .

1); What about multi-media messages from apps like Viber, Line, Tango, etc - are they affected?
2): I've had a number of suspicious multi-media messages sent uninvited via Viber from Russia (which might not be "Stagefright" but maybe they're some other nasty) and I haven't opened them, but from this article it sounds like you can be affected by "Stagefright" just by receiving the message, even without opening it. Is that right?
3): Are there other security vulnerabilities that don't require you to open a message for them to infect your Android device?
