ASUS has been like that ever since entering the mobile industry.
I had my original ASUS PadFone 1 obsoleted in just 6 months because they released PadFone 2 and a few months later, they released PadFone Infinity.
Yes, this kind of approach increases the ire of customers.

This is the real problem for android vendors, they release so many slightly different version of the same model. This must cause a lot of overheads in production while increasing the number of devices to support. There is such a thing as too much choice, at this point the many choices begin to be of no benefit at all as buyers end up unable to differentiate between the devices they have an option to choose from.
Keep the portfolio small Asus, failure to do so is bringing giants like Samsung down now, learn from their mistake.
