        Every big company does this.

Any project they work on impacts company's reputation, any unsuccessful/fail project dents company's image. So they set up sister companies under whose name development is carried out. That could be one reason.

Why did they keep so much within the google division?
Are the other divisions put under a last try, or be sold shceme?
A lot of the divisions kept under google, seems like they would have bigger potential working as separate entities, than those now separated.

Google has been growing and has come a long way since it started. It is probably dividing each project for better management and more efficiency. Some one probably saw it as a way to make more profit and a way to easy get rid of and create new projects without disrupting production or whatever you would call it in the software world.

I think its a good move, Google saw itself primarily as an advertisement company. That made almost all of its product rely on advertising as revenue. However, Google had potential to expand into many other markets, this move will enable that.

Don't understand why ppl do this? why someone else will lead companies ?

its well known move to squeeze more money from existing company.
By separating everything and putting there separate CEOs you dont need to worry that if one part is going down its taking whole company to bottom, not to mention more ways to make more shady "behind the scene moves". Because if you think that google is different than other companies... sorry to burst your bubble. people are people, they always doing this.

Also sorry but Sundar Pichai is probably worst choice...

All it's doing is taking all that Google money, turning it into Alphabet money, and splitting up Google and other companies to allow for better project and capital management. Pretty much a new and improved funnel/pipeline system.

This is actually one of the most mature decisions Google has ever made, astonshing to see how far two grad students have come. Quite motivating in fact.
This should allow for more transparency while at the same time speeding up the decision process at Google even more.
