MI4 operating system is kitkat 4.4 To upgrade to Lollipop you need to Root your phone this process well documented in various posts on the web,just Google it and you can find out how to do it.
The new marshmallow 6 OTA release by Xiaomi will not update your kitkat 4.4 operating system it will only update the User Interface on your MI4

I am using mi4. I updated to miui 7.1, but still its running on Android 4.4.4.
miui 7.1 is full of bugs, music app is not working properly, system font is missing,
not happy with the update,
better wait for the next update
