Anonymous, 18 Aug 2015Yeah, I hope all manufacturers would update their devices..... moreThe number of devices has nothing to do with how it updates. It is the environment and the implementation which has left Android in its terrible fragmented state today.

Windows Phone for example is basically an OS that is multi device like Android, yet able to maintain instant updates similar to iOS. Scale up Windows Phone market share and devices 1000-fold and it would still be the same.

Android's fragmentation issue will simply not go away due to terrible implementation and execution choices. The advantage lies with the manufacturers, without a single care for the customer who bear all the risk with their data and security.

"support for USB Type-C connectors" you do realize this is a SoC thing and not related at all to OS supporting it right?

It will remain as my favorite since there's nothing better available for me. I bought my first Android phone back when 1.6 was a new version.

If my Moto G 13' gets android 6.0 by the end of the year, then I'm buying my girlfriend a Moto G 15' for Christmas. Otherwise she's getting something else. :)

But they're not Apple, there's more than two different models. In this situation, it's not a good thing when looking for latest and fast Android updates. HTC's promise of update in 90 days of the latest Android release isn't good enough, so just buy pure versions and be happy with fast updates in future as well.

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2015So you completely forgot about Nexus and Moto G's for examp... moreDeep down you gotta know there is a real issue when (out of thousands of Android devices) you point out just a few exceptions.
That is all fine and dandy, until you start thinking of security (something which Android has been under fire lately).

Where are the ROMs with all the latest security patches to the (at least) 3 recent critical flaws?
The truth is very few devices are even in consideration to be patched, let alone actually patched, which translates to a general level of insecurity in the Android platform. At a corporate level (read "Android for Work") insecurity is the same as a DEAD and USELESS proposition. In fact, why would any sane person disregard security in the device that carries access to all their personal and professional life?

Considering Sony's great update policy I'm calm that my Z2 will get Marshmallow.

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2015So you completely forgot about Nexus and Moto G's for examp... moreNope, Nexus is excellent and the way ALL Android devices should be updated. However unfortunately they are too small a percentage which is a shame.

I DID mention in my comment that flagship phones have it slightly better than other Android handsets, but surely you shouldn't spend so much just to get regular updates, which should be the right of all smartphone users. Almost a form of discrimination no?

                      The fragmentation continues.

HTC and LG flagships too. Even Samsung updates it's devices, and it won't take 2 years. Samsung is slow, sure - but it could be even by the end of the year. My Nexus 6 gets the update soon as it's a pure Android device.

I expected Marshmallow, but 6.0? I don't think it justifies a version jump from LP.
