AnonD-123996, 18 Aug 2015One question. Although i really love this project ARA phone... moreSure that is always a risk.
But it all depends on how frequent we upgrade components versus how frequent the basic backbone is upgraded. But even ignoring that, the idea still give us as users the ability to tailor a device much closer to our specific needs and wishes. As an example, it is currently impossible to buy a flagship speced phone, these are only offered in phablet-sizes (any brand) unless you live in Japan.

But to get back to the compatibility.
If components are made cleverly, they might work in 'reduced' backwards-compatibility mode if some other component are not powerful/modern enough.
As an example, say you buy a new QFHD display, but your GPU can not handle that, if designed cleverly, the QFHD could work in a compatibility FHD-mode, until you got a GPU that could utilise the full QFHD.

I think you need to make the phone first at the store then you pay for what you have made. Then, they give you 'modulars upgrade' kit for changing the specs. Or they standardized the starter pack and sell it with modulars upgrade components. They probably delayed it because of this complicated business module. They really have no idea how to sell this or where to sell this.

Google just was kindly asked not to kill struggling for profit smartphone manufacturers up to now with the Ara. Profit margin got low and still getting even lower (except apple).
So, what will it be like not to buy the whole flagship phone, but only bulk, lets say, memory?
Instead of 500-900 $$ the customer will be giving out just 20-50 for new memory module.
So, on my opinion this project will go public just at the end of crazy smatrphone sales era.

Almost any technology gets old at some point and needs to be upgraded. Same with Project Ara. But that doesn't mean the idea behind it is not good!
For example i would love to make my own phone, just the way i want it: a high end device without that stupid selfie camera, just a 5" screen, waterproof and NO fingerprint sensor!
Project Ara is about freedom of choice! You have to give it credit for that at least..

AnonD-83364, 18 Aug 2015If you are looking for another market to launch Ara in, the... moreCanada might be a wealthy market but its bigger.Testing it on larger grounds means a harder distribution for the parts for which we know is still being tested.

whenever your "ARA" smartphone gets back-dated after few months...just replace that...only specific things...not that costly overall. Great Idea by Google.

Eske Rahn, 18 Aug 2015*LOL* Well I does not live in Puerto Rico.... But sure I'... moreOne question. Although i really love this project ARA phone. But dont you think this will become like PC's that we upgrade these days? Example i need to upgrade my GPU of my computer from GTX 760 to GTX 980Ti and its costing me way too much then goes the RAM processor and power supply unit just i need this upgrade so that i can work on my PC. On the other hand keeping this PC compatibility issue, how if ARA device have this kind issue like example i need to upgrade camera from 13 MP to 22 MP and then they say "sorry sir your device chipset/mainboard isn't capable of this unit and you need to buy a new unit in order to use the new camera.OR i want to upgrade phone's RAM then they say"sorry sir your chipset/mainboard isnt capable to handle more RAM please consider changing your unit. Then what we will do? The future of ARA what i see is just that their will be no waste or scrapping of your device until the unit lasts. But whats the real future of ARA considering the upgrade costs like how i mentioned?

                              Still waiting with patience but...
So one can insert a HiFi Audio module (like that of M9) and high end camera (like that of G4) to a big (or small) module and use Micro SD as he wishes. Currently there is no such phone available!

Thats great, a delay, and a sellout, and hopefully thats the last we ever hear of it. Better it dies before angry not-so-bright people who got fooled start flooding the internet with their complaints. I miss the old days when geeks and nerds were smart.
