MIUI doesn't upgrade you android version.. It changes the ui only..it had segregated Google very much from its ui.. And it's full of bugs.. Atleast for LXIMICI version .. ie for mi4i.. In mi4i one handed mode doesn't work... Theme customisation option doesn't appear most of the time while opening themes... Use miui then you all will understand it sucks.

two years ago i was also very keen on the newest android release, i also bought the nexus 4 right after its release, was so happy to be one of the few first buyers, later bought the nexus 7(2013) etc. but things changed, android has so many features, nowerdays i am more keen on a good user experience without bugs and there i have to say, that i really like miui.
honestly i dont own a xiaomi device but my girlfriend does, the mi4. so i think i know it goof enough to say that its a very nice os and in front of all, that it, at least on the mi4, has only a few bugs and runs quite well. i had the xperia z3 and meanwile the galaxy s6 for my own for a direct comparison and software wise i would wish that samsung could give me a miui option. i like the themes, i often feel, that the mi4 with worse hardware is snappier than my galaxy s6 which is way better in benchmarks and there are many small things that the s6 does not have. there is so much love to the deteil in the miui that i miss in the samsung experience and especially in the "cold" stock android. on the other hand side i cannot tell anything besides things connected with different hardware like fingerprint sensors or heart rate sensor that the miui 6 on 4.4.4 is missing.
so, "we" will get miui 7 soon, since i life in germany and we are like the one country in the world where most people have less than 1gb of mobile data per month, this data usage thing could be really interesting. my girl is not interestet in thos technical things at all, she just said this pink theme looks great, thats what the update will be all about for her. but again, where is the difference if its 4.4.4 or 5.1.1? the features will be exactly the same and if someone will paint a 5.1.1 in the settings app noone would have noticed it. i heared, the mi4i also runs on 4.4.4 but has the lollipop mentioned in the settings, everyone is ok with it because you cant tell the difference in use

AnonD-352420, 20 Aug 2015Tell me one APP that has more features in lollipop than it ... moreYou've not got my point... While I do not know any such application yet, that does not mean there aren't any (You probably are not going to notice any new/enhanced feature in an app designed to take advantage of Lollipop, unless you use them side by side or in a reasonably short period).

MIUI offers more features than Android L or even M. It's altogether a new OS :)

Why do you want 5.1 if the experience is exactly the same? It's nit more than a number in the settings

sadly, but miui went same direction as flyme, every new major version they just keep redoing same things over and over. and every new time they make them worse and less optimized.
