07 January, 2010
HTC have just added another name to their smarphone lineup. The HTC Smart is their first GSM handset to run on the Brew platform but judging from its specs, you shouldn't expect a best debut award. This is the...

What difference does it make to the user what OS it is as long as it works well; Only technical people get excited about the OS
The consumer doesn't care or Know their running S60 on thier nokia or even ask what the Iphone is running. They just want to know what the phone does.

Its not unlikely they borth were inspiered by Neonode that came with their firt model even eralier... and that one was introduce yers before if finally came out.

There are iPhone copies, except those chineese ones... iPhone was not the original touchphone."

I already know it, but is good that you mention that.

"The Iphone may not be the first touchscreen phone..but it sets the bar way up high..so high that it always had been the barometer to those new touchscreen phones."

And good point too. Many may disagree with that but the fact is that the iPhone was the one to start with all the touchscreen mania.

But well, let's stop the off topic and return to the note.

Nice phone. As told before, this may be directed to low or mid-end phone users. HTC now is trying to cover all areas in wireless phone industry.

I think this is a fair attempt to step into regular consumers. The best part is brining Sense UI as their main cards. I think they will easily make good name in this market based on this UI. Personally I am not a fan of Sense UI but I do admit it has a powerful visual effects with easy functionality. At the same time they should not forget that this market are not ready for 100% touch-based handsets so they must include some set with the slide keypad/board along side this one.

Well, it's "nothing to rave about" if you happen to be a geek. Most users don't need a smartphone, but a nicely designed affordable feature phone with gorgeous Sense interface is a welcome addition to the lineup. Looks so much more beautiful than Nexus One!

I am saying this under correction but 90% of all phones sold worldwide are budget and lower end phones. Hopefully this is HTC's entry into that market. I think in 2010 we are going to see a lot of better quality budget phones, and it already started last year with Nokia introducing 3.5mm audio jacks on even their cheapest phones that only has FM radios.

Their major competitors, Nokia, Samsung, LG and SE are doing the same, Making phones of all sizes, shapes, prices and specifications. So if you can't beat them, join them!

                            It is NOT a smartphone.
Its a simple feature phone introduced at low price point.
It is in fact HTC's first attemt to take on non-smartphone market.
If it is cheap enough, it can be popular. UI isdecent enough.

it's understandable that the spec is basic cause it is an entry level. But in no time HTC will surely going pumped their homebrew OS. Just look at HD2 and it's capabilities.

Now HTC is trying the same technique as Nokia did with S60 touch through 5800. Introducing a cheap mass market device first with the new OS to make it spread accross many users and then release a better spec'd phone with the same OS and with some UI improvements.
