Huawei's Nexus 6 runs another benchmark, has more specs outed

15 September, 2015
Just yesterday we saw the upcoming Huawei Nexus 6 (codenamed Angler) in the database of the Geekbench benchmark for Android. That helpfully confirmed a couple of key specs of the device, namely the Snapdragon 810 chipset it uses, the fact that it comes with 3GB of RAM, and it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

mir, 16 Sep 2015Mediocre cpu on apple's latest devices? Yeah right. It actually is. Even iPad Pro with A9X, which isn't really so mobile. It's quite a large device. There are a lot much more powerful devices with Core M and same size.

mir, 16 Sep 2015Mediocre cpu on apple's latest devices? Yeah right.A 2800 geekbench score of the iPhone 6 is just midrange, when it comes to the GPU the iPhone is on the adreno 420 level but has a lower resolution than most Android phones. Actually, the strongest device out there in terms of gpu performance is the xperia x5 compact with adreno 430 and the new iPod touch also because of its low resolution. Onscreen that makes 3-4 times the frame rate of a galaxy s6.
So yes, mediocre cpu but very strong GPU that's apple and this year it will most likely stay the same. Considering that the apple a8 is almost on pair with the strongest Android offerings of 2015 in terms of raw gpu power, the iPhone 6s could easily be the phone with the strongest gpu out there and will be for sure the phone with the best onscreen performance out of any phone available in 2015.

I'd like to point out that the Nexus 6 2014 is a better device and only $349 on Amazon. Enjoy :)

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2015You can if you don't game. In fact you welcome it. A gpu is... moreI don't have any games on my phone, really not one and still I use the GPU of my galaxy s6 in different scenarios every day. Just because not everyone knows what the GPU does, it doesn't mean the phone is not using it. One example where gpu power matters is slow motion videos, I often use them for analysis and I could not do his with a huawei device.
The point is, a high end phone should be able do do everything and a strong gpu is part of some features that are included in everything :D
As u maybe have read I don't use a sd 810 right now but I planned to switch to the oneplus 2 what I cannot actually do because I don't get an invite but thats a different story and so is why I don't want to keep my s6.
All I can say is, when connected to the charger and installing apps while using it, the s6 with its exynos chip does also get really hot and there are some newer sd810 devices that does not get any noticeably hotter (with heat pipes and stuff but I don't care, the result counts) so what stays negatively is the bad efficiency and as a result the bad battery performance. But that's the same with the sd 808 so the solution for this can easily be just a bigger battery. Sounds like a good compromise. And when it comes to performance.... I am quite sure, most of the Samsung exynos fans don't even own a galaxy s6 or note 6 because the phone is not that special in this area. For sure its not slow but its also subjectively not faster than other high end phones. I would even say because of this RAM issue (search for it, the note has the same) and the frequent app reloading it feels or it is slower than other phones with worse cpus. I had the Asus zenfone 2 with 4gb of ram and its intel chip for a comparison and beside from first loading the zenfone was the faster phone overall so the exynos alone makes not a fast phone.
So believe the words of an exynos owner, this chip is not the holy grail and a sd810 is everything but not a deal breaker for a good device if its used properly and after all those sd810 devices out there I am sure huawei will find a way to implement some cooling pipes or Google will optimize he drivers like oneplus did.

AnonD-352420, 15 Sep 2015The helio x20 has a much weaker gpu, not like a bit weaker ... moreYou can if you don't game. In fact you welcome it. A gpu is such a sorry waste of Silicon that would have had been better used by a bigger cpu.

Have you seen the Qualcomm schematics? The gpu is like 1.5 the times of the cpu size. That's unacceptable , one uses the CPU everywhere while the gpu is only stressed on games (for the rest like animations or videos, even a low end gpu is enough).

So -yeah- for non heavy gamers a SoC with a weak Gpu yet a powerful CPU is the very definition of high end .

this device sounds outdated before it even launches...why even bother with this. no one needs the SD810 because of the overheating and throttling issues. anyway lets just wait and see...

Vic, 15 Sep 2015Snapdragon 810 ? Thanks, but no thanks... Worst CPU optio... moreThe helio x20 has a much weaker gpu, not like a bit weaker but not even close to the league where Samsung is with its exynos and Qualcomm with the sd810.
You cannot accept such a major drawback in a high end phone. The sd 808 in comparison is like worse than the sd805 in almost every way, you cannot put a weaker chip in the end 2015 model than you put in the end 2014 model... The 805 you cannot use because its not 64bit. The huawei chips have the GPU power of a three year old xiaomi mi2 or the almost three years old nexus 4, so you cannot think about this option either... Samsung won't sell its exynos chips to phones ment for the western market so... Yeah, its not like the sd 810 is the perfect chip but there is just no better option available...

Snapdragon 810 ? Thanks, but no thanks...
Worst CPU option. Not because of overheating, but more importantly because all devices with S810 show just average battery life unlike previous generation on S801 and S805. Say, Sony Z3 had excellent battery life on S801, but Z3+ with S810 got much worse one. It's confirmed not only by GSMarena battery tests but by many other resources. And it's the same story for all other manufacturers who decided to use S810 in their devices.
Probably MTK Helio X20 or S808 is a better choice. But S810 is definitely a bad one...

Like it would get the sd 820 this year but this won't happen, politics have changed and also Qualcomm is in another position. Back then, the s4 pro was the first good Qualcomm chip after a long time, so noone really wanted to be the first to equip its phone with it... This time everyone is waiting for the sd820
