So, I could MAYBE understand how these could be used for a modernised version of a flip phone with a virtual keyboard, or a Nokia 9300i type device...
Or potentially even a dual-screen smartphone / tablet.
But what other use cases could there be?

3D touch from apple is the way to go for innovation. I have pre-ordered my iphone 6s plus already. All of you here should do the same. ^^

If they put an edge on it, they can call it the Galaxy S7 Fold Edge. A few months later, expect the Galaxy S7 Fold Edge+ and the foldable Galaxy Not7.

This might be used to offer phone sized devices with phablet&tablet size screens for extended reading&browsing.
