EDIT: Actually, security is no big deal. The card info on MST is still tokenised so it's safer than the physical plastic.

Even if the technology is there, it doesn't mean people will use it.
I think personally, I'd be OK with it, but in HK and Australia, NFC is just everywhere where I go.

I'm well aware of M-Pesa and the likes, and I know exactly how developing countries plan to tackle mobile payments. But it's not nearly the same discussion.
In many developing countries, only 10-30% of the population have access to a BANK account, whereas these payment services allow Telco's to step in and provide banking-like services to customers who otherwise just would never be able to get an account.
Completely different story if you ask me and not what I was talking about.

By end of 2015, half of the 12mil terminals in the US will be upgraded to support CHIP technology, which is also mandatory in many other markets, which will bring NFC capabilities to these terminals.
On top of that, Europe and the US had the highest shipment of NFC enabled terminals.
I'm not arguing that the MST feature is great, it's fantastic actually. But did Samsung do their maths? By the time they roll-out in major markets and come to agreements with a substantial list of banks, NFC will be the mainstream payment mechanism.
I like the fact you can use MST where NFC isn't available, I just think that it doesn't make any business sense to go down that path, especially when Samsung only JUST launched the service.

I'd love to see your face when you're trying to use Apple pay in a supermarket that doesn't have NFC which is like still the case in most places everywhere. Which is of course better. Don't think it doesn't have the hardware to do what Apple and android are doing when it can also use android pay system as well.

I fail to see how adding MST hardware is going "one step beyond the competition". It is an old technology, not a new one. Adding MST to Apple Pay would be like adding a floppy disk drive to the new MacBook. Instead, the new MacBook forces change by offering a single USB Type-C port. Likewise with Apple Pay. Samesung's Apple Pay is a hasty response to the competition (just like its recently announced Galaxy annual leasing progam).

This achievement made by Samsung is simply the single best mobile payment solution out there, no competition, NONE. Give them the credit they deserve! And you should put in mind that US and UK are only a small part of the entire world.

And to balance out my comments on here, let me just add that I think they've done a great job at integrating MST, even if it is a dying and redundant technology in the US and UK, and probably won't exist in 5 years time.
And before you say it, yes, in some developing countries it'll exist for much longer, and will we see Apple/Samsung Pay there anytime soon? No, probably not, it's hard enough to get it out in developed markets.
