One of the first things that Google announced at its big event today is that Android just keeps on growing. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on stage that at the moment, there are more than 1.4 billion active Android devices in the wild. "Active" in this context means that they've been used within the last 30 days.

To be fair I rarely go on the play store myself. Only go when there's something I actually want, and half the time I end up using the internet, so there's probably been over a month in between using it in the past. Unless the figure includes using apps that were downloaded from the store, which I don't think is the case.

                        Hmm... interesting!
Few years back I've seen few people with Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxies that just didn't bother to check that "Market" and "App Store" icons. They just didn't know what it was there for.
But as they say... once you go black, you never go back. :)

I really don't understand why anyone would not use the Play Store. It's what makes android beautiful, else this is just another feature phone level device with calls, sms and browser. :/

Apple will never have these numbers... And that's what pisses then off. So, if apple only had 10% of the market then that means they only have 140 million active phones.
