Genuine leather backs for Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL from Mozo

07 October, 2015
You may have missed it yesterday because it wasn’t shown off on stage, but apparently the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL flagships will be easily customizable with back covers. Finnish accessory maker Mozo already has an interesting lineup of back that include genuine leather.

AA, 07 Oct 2015I'd rather save my money than spending for just a case of a... moreI prefer to buy a leather case for my phone. I have a PDair pouch case for my lumia 920, it lasts longest than the plastic case or other case.

    Just checked with Mozo.
They verified the covers support NFC and Qi.
They verified that the covers also replace the sides of the phones (the whole thing behind the face is removable)! (again smart move Microsoft!)
The sides are vacuum metal coated poly-carbonate and back is genuine leather.
That covers it for me (no pun intended hehehe).

AnonD-432393, 08 Oct 2015So, you wanna say that the designer, according to your word... moreI don't know. I just said, this 2015 windows flagship is a very very bad looking & a back dated (design wise) one. 930 was the best looking lumia phone ever made.

hi, for the past years now I wanted a phone which I feel like that it will be a value for money a compact rigid minimalistic design but not short on capabilities and able to stay for a couple more hours. since Microsoft introduces its own model of windows Phone it seems like they are left far behind due to the enormous Android OS domination of smartphones, Now, Microsoft surely this two device, tho its not cheap, will turn peoples attention and worthy of your/our hard earned money, glad I didn't give-up my hope on Microsoft!

It's funny how people whine about premium design.
Let's talk about this a bit... (rather huge post, I might blog it later)
I'll split this in three. Screen, sides and back.
          - Screen.
Screen is vital to be strong (and clear). It needs to be able to endure everyday finger touches and harsh treatment (leave it face down on a table, in the back without a case etc.). Once upon a time, back in PocketPC and Palm days (where stylus was the main method), the first thing I always bought (most times before even getting the device itself in my hand) was a screen protector. Later did that on capacitive screen phones too, but starting with my HTC HD2 and my Note N7000, I just stopped. Now, I bought both in the first 2-3 months of release, so go in gsmarena database and check how many years this is. Both screens look like now. Not "like new but with some tiny issues", like new. For HD2 I only used the pouch that was in the box. For N7000 I used the flip case (Samsung's own) the first couple of years and when it was almost useless, I replaced it with the stock back cover that doesn't have a flip cover. It's like that to this day. Screen has some tiny chips off on its edges, but this is well off the real display area. Screen itself is perfect. I don't use a case, I put it on the table wherever and then just drop it in my bag (that said, in the compartment I only carry my smartphones and some paper clips sometimes).
So, if those are perfect after all this years, what is more to ask now in the generation of Gorilla Glass 4 and such technologies?
When people buy a new expensive smartphone, they run and buy (among other things) some high-tech screen protection. And ok, if it is a true edge-2-edge screen protector, installed perfectly aligned, with no bubbles or dust under them, fantastic. But what about those common "2-3mm inside true screen edge" protectors, that make the device look like sh*t? I mean ok, fine if you use those, you want to protect your device fine. But DO NOT at the same time whine about the beauty of the design of your device (or the lack of it of some other device), when you have made yours look like sh*t.
          - Sides.
Actually the sides suffer more than anything else. Yes they need to be tough. Taking again my old N7000 as an example, it started chipping the chrome color after a few months and now it is mostly black. Flagship device (in its time) my *ss. When Samsung released Note 4, with the metal sides, for me it was their pinnacle. This is what they had to do (already done with A series) and they did it. LG now with V10 also fantastic. Very durable metal. Great! Even Microsoft gave a super solution (although I am not sure they did it on purpose). The sides are actually "replaceable" along with the back. So who cares if they suffer? You just replace it. Or choose a back with metal sides as we can see Mozo here. Yes some ultra super fantastic "bumpers" are ok when you use it in a tough environment (extreme sports maybe) for your phone, but you actually disfigure your device (more on this below...).
          - Back.
Ha, this is the circus main attraction. The 2015 (and 2014 for others) trend is glass. I hope a short lived trend. In the name of this fashion, we lost durability, removable batteries, memory cards (although this was just the excuse)... An everyday tool that you are afraid even if it drops from the height of a chair! And is full of thumbprints. And it slips easily.
So you all run and get full cases (some are like armor - again excused in specific environments)... SO WHAT DO YOU CARE if the phone has a glass back? You see it? You touch it? Or is it just something to brag to your colleagues? Here again LG with V10 did what they should. Nice grippy back that can suffer. Microsoft also did what they should. You don't need to buy a cover for 950, you just replace the back (and sides)! You can even have some different for different occasions. You want leather? You want kevlar? You want chrome? Heck for Note 4 there was also a full swarovski back! The imagination of the 3rd-party is the limit. AND you don't disfigure the phone. It is still clearly the model you originally bought. People see it. You touch it.
Unlike my alcantara sofa, that just like you people with you "premium construction" smartphones, I have only seen 2-3 times uncovered in the last few years. So if it was really just foam and wood with no upholstery, people would never know.
So to sum this up. Spare us with your glass/metal jewelery that you never see and let us have practicality and functionality along with freedom of choice.
Microsoft well done on the design of this one.
