And in that case mainly only the SoC in iPhone is apple designed so they in fact don't use proprietary hardware like Samsung does.

sr888, 14 Oct 2015Yeah I was wondering that (or something similar) too. Sa... moreTechnology was worth till galaxy note 4,note edge and LG G4. But now these extra add ons coming like iris scanner, finger scanner 3D touches its all useless. Like example note edge's technology and features are enough for us to fulfill our basic needs and requirements. These extra addon features are nothing but making your mobile more and more complex till you get irritated. Samsung's own features like air view and other technology integrated is just fine and perfect. If these companies continue this way of implementing and implementing technologies like 3D then expect more early repairs and device failures.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2015Longpress = you press longer and wait ( software thing)
3D... moreInteresting.
So 3D-touch is actually fairly easy to implement. Because if you press harder then the area used to register a touch gets bigger and the duration of that press is longer thus the software does something else. If you just click then not only is the touch-area smaller but the duration of the press is shorter.
Ingenious. Why didn't anyone else noticed this? I know that in recent years with the high-resolution screens and thus accompanying hi-res touch-scanners, this must have been noticed by developers, doesn't it?

Thechickadee , 14 Oct 2015I don't see the trend was towards voice assistant prior to ... moreThere's a slight disagreement with regards to voice recognition, mr. or mrs. Thechickadee.
S-Voice is/was a Samsung license of Vlingo (now Nuance). This was released much earlier than any iPhone. It also works different and is targeted for a different use than e.g Siri or Google Now. Both Siri and Now are completely useless for non-English speakers while Vlingo was quite good. In fact I myself preferred the old speech recognition systems of Symbian and featurephones at that time. Which had to learn words indeed but could be programmed/used perfectly for non English search. I also hate it that both Now and Siri illogically prioritize internet-related (web) searches first and local device searches second while IMHO it should be the other way around. First local device search THEN web-search.
As for fingerprint scanners.... hmmm Windows was the first to adobt it for mainstream use (many laptops used to have fp-scanners) but it did became popular indeed with Apple's iPhone. By then interaction with them was much better than with the old windows laptops from yesteryear. Perhaps it is time to re-implement finger-print security on laptops again.
BTW, this device is from 2004: http://www.amazon.com/HP-iPAQ-Pocket-hx2750-Bluetooth/dp/B000AM4KZE
And as far as tablets goes... A PDA is essence the same. But if you really must know where Apple (and not just Apple) got their ideas from. Look at this device from 1996: http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org.uk/docs/Acorn/ART/ART_DS003_NewsPAD.pdf

sr777, 14 Oct 2015What's the different with 3D touch and long press? Is it e... moreYeah I was wondering that (or something similar) too.
Samsung had this thing called Air Browse and other tricks that use the sensor above the screen to interact with users through gestures (above the screen without touching it). Why would they need 3D touch? As long as touch-screens don't give real feedback all that 3D-touch-stuff is IMHO useless. Older people are already struggling to memorize all the swipes, clicks, pinches, drags and flicks and then there's the various sensor controlled stuff today. This will only get worse.
As UI's becomes simpler and uglier, gestures become harder and more difficult.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2015Except that not all of those things happened because apple ... moreI don't see the trend was towards voice assistant prior to 4s then when 4s came out, Samsung came out with a half baked s voice to compete with apple the next year
fingerprint sensors? Right. When was the last phone tha came out with a fingerprint sensor prior to 5s? There weren't rumours or anything that shows android was moving into that direction, and there's a reason I didn't mention 64 bit at the first place because qualcom and other vendors were already discussing about the possibility of a 64 bit chip, just that Apple beat them to that
Apple sure wasn't the first one to came into the scene with 3d touch on phone, but they started the whole thing through Apple watch, and pardon u. I never said Apple came in first on everything, my point was that they mainstream all these stuffs, the trend wouldn't have move that way without Apple
On top of all these, tablets that run on soc wouldn't have exist as a category if not for Apple (note: soc), I know prior windows tablet exist. Google was caught surprise at that point and ginger bread did not support tablet at that point, then out comes the disastourus honeycomb
So smell reality and wake up, android would have been equally stale without iPhone.
