I think your prediction reflects more what has been happening to HTC and what might happen to OnePlus. Being a pure player in the smartphone business is anything but a viable business model.

1, 19 Oct 2015Nothing special, just another overpriced phone only from th... moreHuawei's teams actually deliver great phones all around.
You may know that they are world class providers of communication solutions, which they use in their devices. In my region of the world, they are also the only Chinese brand with support for all cellular network bands.
I've never heard of people complaining about compatibility issues with Google Play, or drivers to use ADB, or anything. In the mean time, I'm still trying to get Helium Backup to work on my Oppo...
Their build quality has been amazing recently, with a lot of glass and metal. I don't care about plastic phones, personally, I'm just saying.
Their software translation is accurate... If you've ever seen Flyme OS or cheap Chinese phones, then you know.
Why should they sell products which deliver quality all-around at the price of typical Chinese phones, which may be great in terms of components, but far less attractive with respect to the rest of the package (either build quality, software or network compatibility, for example)?

Sun Sand, 19 Oct 2015No it does not!!!!!
Nokia N1(on sale since 8-jan), Google ... moreActually it does. The connectors on the exisiting phones might be USB 3.1 but they are actually USB 2 in every other regard.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/android-m-features
USB Type-C/3.1 support
One important bit of future-proofing is full support for USB-C, which is closely linked to the USB 3.1 standard. We’ve seen this plug already in the OnePlus 2, but it was really just a USB 2.0 port with a different connector.
The big news is the new set of capabilities we’ll see when ‘proper’ USB-C phones arrive, with USB 3.1 support. They’ll be able transmit 40x the power of the current USB connectors, although exactly how much power phones of the future are going to gobble up is something we don’t know yet.
Bandwidth will increase too, but it’s the prospect of even faster-charging batteries that has us excited.

The Mate S has better balanced specs I think. Some reviewers don't like the Emotion UI tho. And the battery of the Mate S is a little small but perhaps to keep down weight. And its price is flat out way too high. But fix those issues and its a winner if it also otherwise behaves stellarly in reviews. I'd rather have Mate S than the Mate 8.
