Sony Xperia Z5 landing in Canada next week

On June 17, 2010, Member of Parliament Bruce Hyer (Thunder Bay-Superior North) introduced Private Member's Bill C-560,[14] called the Cell Phone Freedom Act, which would prohibit carriers from selling SIM locked phones in Canada without first informing the consumer of the existence of such a lock. Bill C-560 additionally mandates that phone companies selling new phones must unlock customer phones, without charge, at the end of contract or upon purchase of the phone outright, when requested by the customer.

I just can't believe that Sony will not be selling it through their website like with the Z3, etc :-(( Some people might get a different phone because of this stupid decision including myself!

You can buy it, but it'll be locked to Bell. However it's a simple 10-20$ unlock code purchase on Ebay, so no big deal.

good for canada, but even if I was canadian I would wait for the colour ones. I have put my eyes on z5 gold and that's final. although the blue/green one is a beauty too.. damn. decisions.. decisions.

Will you be able to order for same price from Sony Canada online? Because this $649 price is from Bell and it's locked :-(( I really want the white one! Ready to order asap and replace my Nexus 5.

I thought Sony was serious about making their Xperia line truly competitive phone. They're excluding at lease 2/3rd of their potential customer in Canada who don't want to be with Bell. I'm unfortunately included in that despite really wanting this phone. Guess I'll have to go with the Moto X in the end...

I own the Z3 compact and I think people will fall in love with the Xperia line of phones. Very intuitive, stylish and a monster battery. I switched from my iPhone 5 to the Z3 compact and boy am I happy I did.
