Wow, In the State yeah the N900 maybe be more expensive than the iphone, but in the UK, THE UK!!! you can get the same price plan with the N900 the handset free on a 24month contract just like the i-phone, obviously if your getting the phone sim free or with no data plan then yeah the N900 will be more expensive, and in any case there price is not that different if your going to get an iphone sim/data free.

I'm a Nokia fan but i-phone are killing it with the apps, plus yes there's a lot of crap apps for the i-phone, BUT YOU GOT TO KNOW WHAT APPS YOU WANT and what you want to use it for, I think up till now Nokia N958GB is the best bar none.

Or Dweeb Spruce Bum as hes commonly known.

Allways making up stuff! Apple makes more money on each iPhone sale than anybody else. You can find profit reports about it. Hell, I work in a phone shop, we get paid £300 for every iPhone sale. Apple has already admitted that they almost break even on the App Store. So theres two things you made up that are completely contradicting to what reports say...... Because you are making it all up!

Thats no news for you though, every post you have made the last 6 months + is made up n your own head.

It doesn't matter if the BB can't take attachments larger than 4MB, or if you can't set up Gmail accoutns or do internet banking on the BB (though I am surprised with this one...I've seen people do that with no problem), or that BB e-mails are like text messages. The reason none of that matters is because of Blackberry Messenger. People who get Blackberries get it for BBM and the instant communications it offers. The iPhone doesn't offer anything like that. Sure there's lots of different messaging programs/platforms, but none that are exclusive to the iPhone, work on every iPhone and can identify each iPhone in the world right out of the box.

Blackberries are even starting to make a comeback in Canada, with more and more 20-somethings ditching their iPhones for Blackberries simply because BBM is becoming the new "in" item right now.

ludwik, 25 Feb 2010is there anything stopping Nokia from making android phones... more@ludwik

Spot on. Nokia needs to get with the program. They've ditched Maemo (err "merged" it with Moblin to form Meego). Now they need to start winding down Symbian and focusing on Android (and maybe Windows Phone 7 series). Nokia's got decent hardware, but right now Symbian is just horribly outdated. Especially compared to Android, the iPhone's OSX and soon enough Windows Phone 7. Who's going to keep buying Symbian phones when for the same price you can get an Android or Windows Phone 7 handset?

I can't wait to ditch my Nokia 5800. The phone's great. But I am tired of having a third rate app store. No desktop support like iTunes (the software I got doesn't run on my Mac). No integration with Google's services which I love...on and on. And I am sure I am not the only Nokia user thinking the same way. If Nokia doesn't make Android phones, they better come out with some killer version of Symbian soon, or guys like me will jump switch, there are just too many tempting offers out there.

                        [deleted post]@deepspacebar,

Where are you getting your numbers from? $1000 for 4 iPhones with activation fees? What are you smoking? Those 4 iPhones cost as much as your N900 or one Blackberry Bold 9700 from Wind. And $48000 for annual handset upgrades? If you're just going to make up numbers, we'll just write you off as a Nokia fanboy troll and call it a day.

You may think people are 'tards' for buying locked, subsidized handsets, but the reality is that most people (including the majority of your friends and family) do just that because very few people have $500 to shell out for one phone at time, much less to buy 4 phones at that price. Why don't you poll around? Tell me how many of your friends and family members have spent that much for a phone. Ever.

Next, while Wind is great (and I'll probably switch to them when they get to where I live), their plans are utterly unsuitable for budget users who want a little of everything. Unless you are only going to use 100 voice minutes per month, you'll be getting at least Always Talk ($35) and the the unlimited text add-on ($5) and the data plan ($35). That's a $75 bill before tax. That's great if you want unlimited voice and data, but most people can't afford to shell that much out every month. They'd probably go for something like the $50 smartphone plan from Telus with the $15 text and caller ID pack for a total of $65 per month:

                        http://www.telusmobility.com/en/ON/clear_choice_smartphones/index.shtml

You make some huge assumptions when you assume that everybody can afford an N900 like you and that they are all willing to pay $75-$80 per month for unlimited voice and data plans. You are assuming that everybody wants 5 GB of data and thousands of minutes per month. That's not the case. Most people want a good mix of daytime minutes, data, and early evenings. Go on the Wind Community forums. People keep asking for a cheaper data plan of 500 MB.

Moving on to your N900. If it's so great and so affordable how come none of the carriers in Canada are carrying it? And how many as Nokia sold worldwide? Heck, even Nokia doesn't really believe in the N900. They just announced that they are merging it with Intel's Moblin to form Meego. If this was such a strong platform, why spin it off?

The reality is that Nokia knows it's in trouble. iPhones have gone from US$499 to $99 on contract. Maybe next year, they'll be free on contract. Android is coming on strong, particularly in the mid-range market. And Blackberries pretty much own the business market and are starting to catch on socially as well. This is real trouble for some of the OEMs (not just Nokia). With smartphones becoming so cheap, nobody is going to be buying dumbphones or feature phones (like my Nokia 5800 for example) in the developed world. They are going to want phones that compete with the iPhone for pretty much free on contract or really cheap off-contract. To date, other OEM's haven't been able to respond well (except for HTC with its Android line-up). Can Nokia get together with a service provider and offer the N900 or the X6 or the N97 for $100 on-contract? If they can't they are pretty much done. Already, fewer and fewer people are buying Nokias in North America. Now that Android is spreading to Europe, between the Android handsets and the iPhone, Nokia will be in serious trouble there too, in short order.

Lastly, please don't refer to others as 'tards'. That's disrespectful and I have reported you for it.

[deleted post]Do you even know what you're talking about?

4 N900 are what? 2000 dollars? If you get a voice and data plan for your N900, then it'll cost the SAME as any plan you get with an iPhone. You don't get a special data plan if you get a non-iPhone phone. You talk about all these extra apps and "cost" of jailbreaking. over 30% of the apps in the app store are free, especially most of the really useful ones (minute tracker, NY times, shazzam etc).

Please explain to me how a data/voice plan is cheaper if you get a non-contract phone? oh wait, you can't because its not true.

However, the guy and probably a good number of the almighty brand's fanboys probably would never understand, as they claim people should spend the rest of their time/life "managing" their Symbian phones, who doesn't even appreciate the person who rather spend the time to cook the meals for him.

Iphones aren't as cheap elsewhere in the world like US/CA. Where I live I actually paid around US$30 monthly fee (vs. on average of US$20) and handset price of US$350 for my wife, who has been using the phone for almost 2 years now. (yes, the phone is unlock from day 1!) Still, when one takes out an iphone, almost everybody else recognizes such being the iphone.

However, for the almighty brand, who loves to issue dozens of so called "new" phones every month, no longer has any recognition of any model. Most just know they're bricks when being compared to iphone, and "hangs due to OS" comes free of charge.

Another success story is, my ex-boss, who has been an iphone owner for almost 2 years, just started his own business selling iphones accessories.

As long as Apple keeps the basic shape of iphone, many other people are being benefitted....from the factory workers to shops salespersons....as the same accessories can be used on multiple versons of iphones. (vs. the almighty brand, which uses different plugs for charging, and some of its latest phones in 2010, despite using the micro-USB plug for data transfer, does NOT support charging via the USB port. Hence one more charger is required)
