AND to make it worse, since WP7S will ONLY be updateble through the device itself, there will be NO leaks (and no drivers) to make the update unoffial via XDA!! So, Die off HD2 users! DIE!
I'm thirssty for ur pain!

You can't expect a phone over a year old to suddenly get a totally new OS! You paid for WinMo 6.5 with the right to have bug fixes and slightly new features, that's a consumers right.

I have Windows 7 but am I gonna demand MS give me Windows 8 free when it's out? I wish...

If HD2 can't upgrade to WM7, i must go to Andriod System or Symbian.

I m sure that MS will come off their 1ghz high horse eventually.
Samsung Omnia 2 is the only lasting current candidate for the update atm...

High Tech, 01 Mar 2010You will still get WM7 on the HD2. It will come in the form... moreI don't think that's likely to happen. Extracting ROM and porting to HD2 would be a tall task and full of bugs. Looking at Phone7's spec requirement it seems xda developers are at their end of line with Windows Mobile at least, they can continue to cook Android roms though.

But I think that the news is not true. They must have just tried to get a comment from a Sales executive on his way to a meeting or something and he just said the first thing that came to his mind. Its not something official.
The two extra buttons could be brought to other use and HTC should and probably will try to get WinPho7 to HD2. They have already have put in too much into it to just throw it away, capacitive 4.3" screen, camera flash, 1 GHz processor, and some 5 hundred something RAM...
But HTC has a history of deserting their old handsets too. If they do it to HD2 then there won't be any Windows phone that will come cheap owing to already market presence when WinPho7 is out.. Every phone running windows would be either high priced or bundled with some scheme like iPhones. Majkes one wonders that out of all the things Apple changed, their biggest achievement is that they changed their competitors strategy.

Like some others have already said, it will most likely be hacked/homebrewed to get win7 on there, no doubt about it.

You will still get WM7 on the HD2. It will come in the form of cooked ROM's instead from HTC... I'm using a cooked ROM on my HD2 now, and it works great... I'll just rethink my plans to update my phone in the future. Will see what else is out there in say 2012.. I've been using WM for years. Starting with pda's (jornada, ipaq's, etc). But now I will look to other plate forms now (Andriod, bada, etc) for my new phone. Every player is in play now thanks to Microsoft and HTC descion concerning the HD2...

A mere physical button count would disqualify the HD2 for Windows 7 upgrade? WTF! What kind of an OS was that? LOL!

Why sell the HD2 when it will still be better than WM7 phones this year and possible next years phones as well. I would wait til 2012 before you update. By then better phones with better hardware will be available... That's when I will look for another phone....
