And it isn't the hardware alone. It's also because of timing.
They released it too late and made it available in the market at the time where the S6 and other Flagships were already available with faster hardware and latest software.
So, as a consumer, given that they both are at the same price range at that time, I might as well spend it on the latest hw/sw.

Bad targeting but the phone itself is great - very reliable and well-built if you are looking for such a big device. BTW Huawei has discontinued the 64GB model and launched a new 32GB model. Only £299 on online stores like WondaMobile and I guess it is even cheaper in China.

I mean, an android phone using a hardware based on octa a53 for u$500/800 dollars.
I could buy an equivalent smartphone (mt6752) for U$150 in the time the p8 line was launched. Build quality cost that much ? worth that much?
The p8max problem was the price considering the hardware.
Now huawei is offering a real top notch processor and charging less.
They tried but with the p8max they went too far.
Further than apple, in my opinion.

The 6.8" P8 Max completely failed to sell in China. Its market price fell below the smaller P8's within a month. Most of Huawei's sales are still from domestic market so it makes sense to shrink the P9 Max into the 6.2" range.

Wow! this phone must be your highest phone. I love it. Please don't price it too high so More people can own their own. Huawei you great men! Please try and get the 5g first as you moved fast on marshmalow 6. 0 Hahaha!!! We love you huawei!

So when you put the kirin 950 to work on a screen with decent resolution, the performance isn't better than Exynos 7420. Typical.

P8 Max was an international failure (in terms of sales) because they never released it internationally or released only to selected regions.
I hope this successor would be available across the globe.
