BlackBerry Priv shipping date slips to November 23 for unlocked units

10 November, 2015
The Canadian smartphone maker says it's all because of the higher than expected demand it's seen for the handset.

Also pre-ordered a Priv, my invoice still says "This order will be shipped after the release date of 11/09/2015 for *PRIV" with no word on when it will actually ship

Funny, I pre ordered on BlackBerrys website back in September or October and I haven't even received shopping confirmation yet. Each time I ask they sure me I'm one of the first to get my device. It's now Tuesday morning and 5 days after the release and still no delivery in site. Their delivery and sales team at their actual site is terrible.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2015why physical buttons? is it 2009?And how do you switch on your phone to use it ?.

Physical buttons and keys give tactile feedback and proper separation to help differentiate which ones are actually being pressed (think touch typist). This is something you do not get from a flat piece of glass or plastic.

AnonD-114756, 10 Nov 2015I'm not sure how this is a negative thing for Blackberry. I... moreIt's always been an issue with BlackBerry's supply chain management. In early 2013, they made *way* too many Z10's, thinking it would be an iPhone-style revolution. As a result, there were literally millions of unsold stock that BBRY couldn't get rid of. The next iteration, the Z30, they under-estimated, and the phone was impossible to get. Same with the Passport a year later; the original 250k sold out at pre-order, and the phones were impossible to purchase until November or so. So since the Z10 debacle, for the past two years, they've always under-estimated demand, resulting in these delays.

Some people want physical keyboards and BlackBerry didn't anticipate so many orders.

Your conclusion is incorrect. I called several AT&T stores in Houston over the weekend, and visited three. The Priv was sold out in all of them, in some stores it sold out almost immediately. Each store had initial stock of from two to four units. The Michigan Avenue store in Chicago also said they sold out very quickly. That isn't a marketing ploy. And try to remember how small a company BlackBerry is. They don't have to sell many to move the needle significantly.

I'm not sure how this is a negative thing for Blackberry. If a phone is in more demand than expected then CLEARLY it is a device that attracted people's attention and have had much more orders than they anticipated which is a great thing!
Another thing to the person mocking Physical Keyboards - your comment is as uneducated as you are. Physical keyboards will never go out of fashion and surely they're not for everybody but for those who like them the capacitive physical Keyboard is actually excellent. It might not be for you but don't make a stupid comment when you have not tried the keyboard!

the CDMA for verizon and Sprint is on production. That's why they have to give way and move the unlocked production.
