It may not comply with the USB , but it will not damage a phone, I have a battery and I am using the one plus cable to charge my Nexus 5X, guess what my battery has a LCD screen and tells me how much amps is delivering, @ port #1 rated to 1A it outputs 1A, @ port #2 rated for 2.4A outputs 1.9A so it doesn't matter how much amp the cable says it can deliver, if your battery or brick can't output the 3A it will not damage anything, IF your brick is 3A then maybe it will die, but otherwise I don't see a problem with it

AnonD-322352, 16 Nov 2015Tricks? Stop being so ignorant. These out of spec cables... moreIn 1st place the cable can signal the maximum power carried by itself, but it won't necessarily carry all that power. A power adapter will only supply up to the maximum of either the cable or it's own current control circuit, and then the current sink device (let's say the phone being charged) should sink as much as it needs, signaled by the cable's resistor and power supply's current limiter, so no matter if you use a 2A fast charge cable on a fast charge phone with standard 0.5A USB charger, that's where it will top (unless the charger itself is bad). If the cable is less than both phone can sink and charger can source, again the lowest limit is set. If the phone has a 3A cable on a 2A supply and it has no Quick Charge and goes up to 1A, that's about it, it charges at 1A.
Would a phone try to pull more than the charger can supply, the charger will drop voltage to keep the current constant. To avoid this situation of lower voltage (and hence lower power output), it signals the phone the maximum value to pull.

These out of spec cables can cause SERIOUS damage to power bricks and USB ports.

In case anyone didn't quite get the statement:

The cable might be ok with the OnePlus Two, but it definitely isn't ok with any of the other devices they were advertising using it with (OnePlus once showed it charging Macbooks), and it doesn't follow the USB spec that they claim to be following.

The Nexus 5x ships with a charging cable. It's a USB C to C cable with a charger.
OnePlus sells a "USB" C to A adapter. It would be fine if they sold a OnePlus adapter, but no, they slapped the USB label on a device that is not USB compliant.

You see, USB is not a term just anybody can use. It's a trademark.

it means the charger and the cable which is bundled with one plus two is safe and those should not be used on any other product ?

Well, I'm an OP2 user. I don't have any problem with the cable or charging time. It is a bit slow but it sure is quicker than my previously used S4. There's no quickcharge so we cannot expect that the phone will charge like other 810's do. But I sure will try other cables which he reviewed 5stars and check if I find any difference.

Sorry, but thus not a mistake, just another indication of poor mfg and engineering from that part of the world.

                            - Are we surprised to hear this, No!

Using accessories bundled with the phone is advisable. I remember how my blackberry q10 died immediately after connecting it to the pc uaing a friend's usb cable 😂😂😂it was only three qeeka old

I've had a few problems with chargers and always thought it was the charger at fault. Now I know it can also be a cable problem (had a cable problem in the past, thought it was just a bad cable, now I know there are tons of "bad" cables by default).
                                Good read, thanks.

This will not damage the phone, it can damage the charger, adapter or battery IF they can deliver the full 3A, but 3A adapters/ batterys are very rare, the most common are 2.4A which would not have a problem with.

Oneplus users kept saying the usb type c is wonderful and charge really fast. Blind users.

You get what you pay for I guess?
Oneplus won't say anything. AndroidPolice did some criticism on their Oneplus 2 and they never spoke to them again. Same thing will also happen here...
