This is the only pho... moreNative 4K resolution support won't be here until Android 6.0 Marshmallow, so the Z5 Premium's display is rendering @ 1080p whenever not viewing multimedia (videos & pictures), which is ~85% of the time for most people. So, out of 24 hours, 20.4 of them will most likely be used for phone calls, text messages, emails, and light gaming, all of which are done in FHD.
If the remaining 3 1/2 hours (which is quite generous) are dedicated to viewing media in 4K throughout the day (e.g. 2 1/2 hour movie and 1 hour of photo viewing), then there's no excuse for the battery life to be so poor.
Considering the fact that GSMA's battery endurance rating is based on 1 hour of phone calls, 1 hour of web browsing, and 1 hour of video playback, anything more on the Z5 Premium will render it useless. Based on GSMA's measurements, upping the video playback to 2 1/2 hours results in a 44h rating for this device, which is awful.

The Z5 series ended up being lackluster anyway, so it doesn't matter. 2015 will continue to be a bad year for Sony, which is going to result in the company gracefully bowing out of the mobile space in late 2016.
BTW, you might want to check the battery life test results link I posted to see if Sony truly has the most phones with great battery life endurance. You might be surprised.

Then when you play them you need to decode them. Most phones, at least all flagship SoCs have dedicated hardware for this. You can however choose to decode via software by choice or if the hardware support isn't available, this tasks the CPU cores instead and drains much more power in comparison. I saw the same thing for G4, where it got much lower battery time for movies compared to my own test. Not sure how GSMArena do these tests, but something feels way off.
I would recommend you Google hardware vs software decoding.

This is the only phone with 4K display and you should be aware that Sony has the most phones with great battery life endurance.If I remember correctly LG G3 was the first phone with QHD display and had worst battery life and compared to Z5 Premium as well so your statement is invalid.

Although it's rendering content at 1080p, the 4K panel itself is still drawing a lot of power though. Hope to see perhaps a larger battery so that the endurance can be the same as what the Z2 achieved.

I'll remember this day that you all bashing sony z5 premium for it's 4K display and when the day comes that samsung uses 4k display on it's smartphones i'll bash you all like hell!
