Duder, 06 Dec 2015That may be so, but what about the bezels man..?There are always compromises in design, but you are the one who makes the choice at the end of the day: do the stereo front speakers and waterproofing worth an extra ~0.5 mm or so or they don't. Similarly: does having OIS worth having a camera bulge at the back of the Samsung or it doesn't. They are compromises in design and not "mistakes".

Duder, 06 Dec 2015That may be so, but what about the bezels man..?The bezels are coming for you! Hide! :D
Xperias have smaller bezels than iphones and htcs, and larger than some Samsung and Chinese phones. While the differences are not huge in screen to body ratio, since the phone is not rounded down, they optically look larger. I can live with that and on the plus side, you get stereo speakers, waterproofing, largest mobile camera sensor and a rather professional, squared look. But if the look puts you down, then it puts you down... A philosopher called Jagger once said You Can't Always Get What You Want ;P

You hear that big phone fanboys, 5.2" is considered their sweet spot NOT 6"+ even though they'll be offering a impractically huge 6.4" model. Don't see many people buying that nor the 5.7 either, 5.5 would've been nice though.

Art, 05 Dec 2015Dear SONY execs...
Way too many different models and sizes... moreDear Art,
I got quite baffled reading your long comment, so here is mine.
Your wrote: "Focus your efforts on longer battery life, faster better camera on par with Apple 6S, better build quality with glass & titanium or aluminum, less bloat in the UI, how about OIS?....and you can skip 4K, Playstation remote control, and pressure sensitive touch screen....all worthless gimmicks" -> wow... it's like you have never had an xperia phone in hand: my old Z1 had glass and aluminium design 2 years ago when others were making pricy plastic soap holders... (tss, tss Samsung...)
1, they generally have on par or better batteries than iphones and samsungs. fact.
2, the latest z5's camera is really good. no camera comes without compromises, it is and has been true for all smartphones so far, this is not exception. but again, it is in the same league with the competition and overall I find it the best
3, better build quality??! seriously! it's already glass and metal, dude, check your facts before writing (oh and funny you mention titanium... do you know how abundant it is on Earth? spoiler alert: not very, ergo it's freakishly expensive). tl;dr: the build quality is as good that the phones are actually water- and dustproof, the competition's phones are not... end of story
4, the UI is less bloated than most of the competition (cough, touchwiz, cough) and in their marshmallow for xperia concept, you can pretty much uninstall anything you don't want.
5, the point of OIS is debatable, yet some people keep repeating it like a mantra... pro: it helps in low light photography, con: a, feedback loop actuator works better for video, b, camera bulge (which is a design flaw in my eyes). plus, phone OIS is nowhere near as good as OIS in real cameras. anyhow, if they manage to work around the cons, an OIS will be a welcome addition, but the lack of it is not a deal breaker
6, 4K + google cardboard + playstation remote control = playing PS games like in in virtual reality? is that a bad thing? I would rather ask: why other phones don't have that? :-D btw isn't the GS 7 supposed to come with a 4K screen too next year?
7, you are probably right, I don't see the benefit of a pressure sensitive touch screen either. you are also right about that they should be present in the USA, but you have to see that it's hard as the market is pretty much dominated by apple and the nexuses and I find the tech sites pretty much biased towards apple and Samsung like it would be a two horse race.
8, "If you want to run and compete with the big dogs, you need to act like a big dog." I would rephrase you here: although they compete with the big dogs, they don't act like a big dog. meaning: good products, not so good marketing and not so great business decisions
9, "...ZERO compromises on specs" -> please point out the compromises in specs, because I don't see any, on the contrary: they used the most advanced chipset available, the latest android version available when released, probably the best camera sensor, great screen, front stereo speakers (where is that on iphones and samsungs?), high quality materials, great design (not an iPhone copy-paste like so many others) that is also waterproof with SD CARD SLOT (the "big dogs" lack this for crying out loud!), fast charging, 1.5 days of battery life (ahead of the "big dogs" again, for me), LDAC, some must have apps (walkman, smart connect)
10, "your phones are no match for Apple and Samsung flagships" -> I don't know how can you say that? really... I have experience with both the iPhone 5s and the galaxy s2 (it was great in its time), s3, s5 and s6 and I just don't get all the buzz around them... it must do something with good marketing, because the phones are not better than the z5. in my experience, the s6, the iphones and the xperias all have really good build quality, but the xperia easily won me over because of the: design (expendable, camera shutter button, waterproofing, great materials and colours), UI (I like the iphone's too though), battery life (clear winner for me), camera (I accept other opinions than mine, but for me the Z5 works the best due to the larger FOW, realistic colour reproduction and overall picture quality) and the look (it's simply more of my taste, plus I hate the smudgy back of the s6 + the camera bulge)
tl;dr: the Z5 is not mediocre at all, in fact, for many people it would easily be the best all around phone available on the market (provided that it is available on the given market at all)

Dear SONY execs...
Way too many different models and sizes....SONY, please just give us 2 excellent phones instead of all this nonsense of releasing mediocre new stuff every 10 minutes. Focus your efforts on longer battery life, faster better camera on par with Apple 6S, better build quality with glass & titanium or aluminum, less bloat in the UI, how about OIS?....and you can skip 4K, Playstation remote control, and pressure sensitive touch screen....all worthless gimmicks that really add nothing to the quality or perceived value of the device.
Also, please make your new phone available here in the USA. The USA is the biggest, most important, and most affluent market in the world, yet you have pretty much dumped on the US market. Instead, you focus your resources on 3rd world countries like India and SE Asia where most people don't even have electricity or indoor plumbing, where most people cannot even afford to buy a loaf of bread, much less your over-priced cell phones.
And, SONY, who is the mental giant that pulled the plug on all your retail mall stores in the USA? Where do your affluent US customers go to see, touch, tryout, and ask questions about your products? I would never buy an $800+ cell phone from a 3rd party vendor like Amazon or eBay with no warranty. What are you thinking?
If you want to run and compete with the big dogs, you need to act like a big dog. Give us the best smartphone in the business with ZERO compromises on specs, price it to sell, advertise the hell out of it, make it available in the US market and on your own US website, and then back it up with readily-available world-class customer service & support. Your customer support stinks....take a lesson from Apple on this point. They are the best when it comes to customer support & service.
I hope you get it right this time with the Z6. The last 3 or 4 phones you have put out leave a lot to be desired in many areas, and your phones are no match for Apple and Samsung flagships.
Honestly, you people really need to listen to your customers and pay attention to the competition. Give us something we really want! or go home.

No need for the 5.8" and 4" models. I don't think even the Z6C is relevant ( Sony usually releases odd-numbered Compact phones (Z1C,Z3C and now Z5C)

I really hope Sony has a model that is available on Verizon in the U.S. I would love to get a Sony phone, but can't use a gsm one from other countries that I buy in the free market. I am a competitive triathlete and need a premium phone that won't be rendered inoperable by sweat or wet gear or splashing. I want Sony's set of features in the Z6 more than any smartphone in 2016. Second choice would be a Samsung S7 if it has a microSD slot and is water resistant. Third choice would be an apple 7 if it is water resistant.
I was waiting anxiously for the z4v that never ended up selling and will hope for a Sony phone on Verizon in 2016.
