I currently work and have worked in telecommunications for the past 6 years, the amount of times a customer comes in saying "wtf is this?!" with their phone asking to do an update. No surprise that not people haven't updated...

Not much will change year-to-year when it comes to Android updates, place the blame on phone makers and carriers it's their responsibility after all, but they'd much rather you ditch your old phone buy a new one since it's more lucrative for them.

If everyone can update to the latest Android version sure you will get more than 50% on the latest Android version but the problem is that they do not support or update the older device...Not all people so rich can change a new phone every year and not all people have the knowledge to use custom ROM...

heynekko, 09 Dec 2015So what? It is as rock steady as Windows 7 on the desktop. ... moreThe difference is that everyone can officially upgrade from windows 7 or 8.1 to 10, if they wanted to. They don't need permission from anyone, yet in android world, the majority of android 4.x phone models have already been abandoned and will not even get version 5.x, let alone 6.x.

P.S. also, no, rooting and installing unofficial ROMs doesn't count.

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2015Biggest share still Android KitKat 4.4 with 36%.. in 2015.. wowIt's normal. Kitkat is on devices from 2012-2014. The most of the people are not throwing away with money by changing them yearly. It's a non sense to buy a phone every year.
Example: if you have a Samsung S4 since 2 years, you don't need to change it for another 1-2 years from now on.
Most of the people are using the phones for calls, SMS, facebook, whats app, viber, etc. You don't need a flagship of 1000 EURO for that. :)
