I work for SPrint and am the HTC hero advocate. I have seen the android 2.1 update on the hero and its pretty awesome, not to sure about release date... just waiting for it

Apparently the 2.1 update messes up the Droid as well.
Fragmentation of hardware causes this it just can't handle the new features.
It will only get worse as new, more powerful Android handsets are released every few months, leaving the old ones behind.
A developers nightmare.

I'm pretty sure I read that most European networks would be putting the update for the Hero out by the 16th a couple of weeks ago, so it's not really a delay, as such.

i got my fone the other day and updated it and it crashed my fone messed all my settings up and half my apps and settings dint work i had to exchange my fone casue it went to software fault i would stay away frm updating BUT thats my opinion

I added this update last night. not sure of the changes cos i only just got the desire. but the user experience is fine by me

Why does everyone get so worked up about updates at least the hero is getting one. The fact of the matter is Htc could have just moved on and not even bothered with the hero if you have nor realised they have brought out to major handsets in the last few weeks. So if you were thinking like you are in business would you let the hero be updated with the new software along side the legend and desire no you wouldn't because you want the new handsets to gain a certain amount of sales first. This is a business not a charity and nowhere is it written that Htc have to give you a update. Even if I have to wait 2 more weeks I think its good that Htc thought of there Hero customers.

About a month ago, htc customer service told me: hero update for Android 2.01 would be for may 5th... perhaps this date is only for belgium...

Remember the update has to be tested for each carrier, that could be a huge factor in the delay. I work in the industry and the last thing phone companies care about is the user and what version of the software they have, its all about profit.
However I still want my update to 2.1 now.

I personally think this is ridiculous because us hero users have been hearing 2.1 rumors since Jan and the date keeps changing it is really frustrating for all of us we all just want the update I mean Motorola has no problem releasing the update but obviously HTC and Sprint have problems so until its official stop posting random date please
