20 December, 2015
A smartphone with its share of flaws as we established while doing our in-depth review, the BlackBerry Priv nonetheless manages to entice users, and our weekly poll results are in to attest that.

I'm surprised it got so high % of No's since this poll was rigged on EVERY Blackberry fanpage on the internet.

Eske Rahn, 20 Dec 2015I think it is wrong trying to interpret the 77/23 interest ... moreProblem is, you can't make it any smaller without making it fatter. Look at Sony's Compacts, to keep the same hardware you have to bulk out, and these days the larger screen which simultaneously allows increasingly svelte waistlines seems a no-brainer winner for most.

As for this vote, I think people who wouldn't buy it anyway will vote this positively, because the price value equation doesn't feature for them. Forgetting the price, it's a innovative, intriguing concept with a couple of bugs, that deserves some good praise overall. That's how I voted, at least.

If only it's priced appropriately, it would have been awesome..
In India it's price is in the range of the z5 premium and note 5 where obviously the priv is inferior for normal users.
It would have been awesome if it's prices somewhere around the s6 edge/ z5 range..

Not the best of phones, but still a solid first step by Blackberry. Competition in the Android market is vicious and unforgiving - they better stay on their toes if they want to thrive.

I think it is wrong trying to interpret the 77/23 interest as potential buyers.

My guess is that many -like I- have the feeling that "This would have been a wonderful device if..." and then with different ideas on what should have been different.

Two ideas in themselves are interesting and worth a 'thumbs up'
                          a) A more security driven approach to Android (Here Marshmallow might help a great deal)
                          b) A modern android device with hardware QWERTY (The last WW awailable one was Xperia Pro from 2011...)

Personally I have been wavering back and forth between buying and not buying ( http://eskerahn.dk/wordpress/?p=1103 ) , and currently leans towards not buying, as it is clearly too large for one hand operation for my hands, and on the other hand the keys are very very small.

Ideally (for me) it should have been shrunken by 15% to phone size (that would be about 65mm wide) with a 4.6″ FHD display (that would be 473dpi) and with the QWERTY slider in the LANDSCAPE direction giving larger keys - as a physical keyboard requires two hand operation anyway, it might as well be in landscape..

The Priv wasn't bad considering it was BB's first Android device. To compete with other expensive "flagship" devices they have badly to improve their software and the camera. The web/forums are full of users complaining about that. BB has to listen to their users.

The ... morei do like der designs but what is innovative about a big sliding keyboard? and regarding shortcuts and laynching apps most of the people prefer swiping and gestures to control their apps
it is actually easier to just use the touch screen on a 5.4" device. and 192 grams seriously???
they should hav tried this with a smaller model, say 4.-4.5 inch....
priv got the votes but i highly doubt its gonna sell much.

Or why would taking photos keyboard shortcut be a better solution than already existing hard shutter twostep key on some devices?
I just dont see an advantage in it over already existing solutions. Maybe it would be an advantage 4 years ago, but today...nah

The PKB is not anymore about just typing with the physical keys, but it's also used for various shortcuts like App Launching, Scrolling, Take photos, and many more. And it saves a lot of time than scrolling the App Drawer, if that's not good enough for you or anybody for that matter, then I don't know what is!
BlackBerry spent most of their money in R&D than any other company, they're bringing great innovative ideas to the table since 2013, and the world is noticing it since just recently.

Well, although it is a breath of some desperately needed other design language in smartphone world, I really do not see anything going for this flagship phone.
Hard keyboard is cool and different, but really not an advantage ( more inconvenient than querty onscreen one) except for the sake of being a bit different.
I dunno, maybe for the old fame sake this expensive phone got this vote?
