Anonymous, 24 Dec 2015Nope. There is more to success than sales. One could provid... moreThere are many issues with software updates: they are costly for the company to make, they may break things in the process and the average user doesn't even know what software their phone is running let alone the importance of a software update. It isn't anything more than another annoying message to them.
People like us that read websites such as GSMA and understand the importance of updates represent only a tiny fraction of smartphone/tablet sales. Companies like Motorola don't give a fk about what we have to say. As long as the average person doesn't care about updates we won't be seeing update schedules like Apple's or Google's (Nexus and Android One) on third party manufacturers. Motorola tried to be different by advertising updates but after the Moto E (2015) update fiasco I will never touch their brand ever again. On the developer side of things Sony has done some amazing things lately. Also, their flagships have received proper updates.
The stagefright vulnerabilities have stirred up some interest in security updates (not software). The LG G3 that I currently have sees monthly OTAs with Google's security patches and it's currently on December security patch level even though it is still stuck on 5.0.

Anonymous, 24 Dec 2015Motorola only cares about their most recent devices. I hate... moreThere was an OTA for stagefright way back in october I think. The device that I have right now isn't vulnerable.

GreekGodMV, 24 Dec 2015So it means that they stop giving updates to their new prod... moreNope. There is more to success than sales. One could provide updates for their phones, creating value for the customer and promoting brand loyalty. Instead, these companies piggyback off the Android source and release junk that they are too incompetent to provide updates for. Motorola was a dying brand before Google gave them life; now they are only being leveraged by Lenovo because Lenovo equals shit to everybody that has a clue. Motorola's absolute peak was the Moto X under Google's ownership followed by the Nexus 6 created in partnership with Google. They are a has-been of hacks who cannot even patch their own devices when the source code is out there. Lenovo will milk the brand for money and then ruin it just like they did to the Thinkpads. I have moved on to another brand, and recommend that people stop spreading the lie that Motorola is good at updating their devices.

Anonymous, 24 Dec 2015Motorola only cares about their most recent devices. I hate... moreSo it means that they stop giving updates to their new products and start giving your 1 year old device first just because it was on sale on black Friday whereas Samsung has not even updated their flagships thank God you are even included in the update list every company sells phone for profit so the newer the phone the more the benefits so when a new product releases it is the first one to be supported because Motorola wants you to buy their new phones not stay with what you have by giving fast updates.

Motorola only cares about their most recent devices. I hate it when people recommend them for their stock Android experience because it takes Motorola aix months to update Android and that's if you're lucky enough to have a supported device Moto G 2014, which was sold as new as recently as Black Friday, still vulnerable to StageFright. What a waste of potential. Lenovo has run this company into the ground.
