Sony creates world's first "48K" 360-degree video by using 12 Xperia Z5 Compact units

07 January, 2016
4K simply isn't enough for Sony anymore. After having launched the world's first smartphone with a display that can sometimes show 4K content (the Xperia Z5 Premium), the company is now aiming even higher. Much more so.

What sony did is no different from using a single camera and rotating it 360 degrees. You can only see one camera's view at a time.

Ofcourse they can say it is 48k. 12x4 48. But that's not how pixels and display works unfortunately.

The weakness of most of the Android devices maker is the very short software update support. If Sony can take advantage of this by providing life time support until the hardware limit, for sure Sony will be the leader.

There isn't a fixed protocol for display standards - it's rather arbitrary when it comes to new formats. They can name it whatever the heck they want. If it's 48000 pixels wide in the final format, they can say it's 48K video. 4K video is named 4K because it's 4K pixels wide (4K = 4000).

You know just the same as 2560x1080 is still regarded as 1080p? Same goes here it is still 4k. Pixels in the Y direction is still the same.

I mean look at Samsung as any other phone with same specs and you will see Samsung is overpriced, not as much as IOS device overpriced but still overpriced.

Sony is wasting time! Why can't they do something radical on their Xperia which is struggling to compete with other Android flagship.

  • AnonD-427462

Alright then to clear d doubt i believe those who have seen the video should tell us how much memory space d video consume and how many minutes cos it's the higher the resolution the higher memory consumption
For example 10gb for 5minutes 4k video
so this one should be higher i guess

This is not 48k. It would only be 48k if you could view all pixels at once.

So it is still 4k.

is that true or not

Its neither interpolated, nor 3840*12 x 2160*12.

Its a proper 48K folks.
Here is the calculation:

1K is Full HD
1920 x 1080 = 2073600 dots

4K is 4 times FullHD
(1920 x 2) x (1080 x 2) = 3840 x 2160 = 8294400 dots
Alternatively,
8294400 / 4 = 2073600

12 phones in portrait gives 12 times the 'horizontal' resolution when phone is placed vertically.
It means
2160 x 12 = 25920

Final resolution
25920 x 3840 = 99532800 dots

Alternatively,
99532800 / 12 = 8294400 (12 times 4k)
and
99532800 / 48 = 2073600 (48 times K)

Its basically a 27:4 ratio output

Keep smiling
:)

"2K resolution is a generic term for display devices or content having horizontal resolution of approximately 2,000 pixels."
