Currency Conversion Plays an important role. Try accessing Google Play using your own Indian IP and check the price of an app. Now use a VPN to connect to US IP and now check the same app. The amount in Dollar will be equivalent to converted amount. The developer sets the price in the developer's local currency. The buyer purchases the app in his/her local currency. Google does the conversion. The price of SuperSU Pro is 3.75 EUR and in India it's ~₹231. On today's conversion rate it's near to ₹270. The Conversion is a one time process when the Developer sets or updates the price.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2016You are wrong. I have purchased 7 games using my debit card... moreWhich Debit card did you used to buy the apps? I have tried IDBI, BOI, Coporation Bank and all failed. I am myself an Android app developer and at last had to create account in HDFC and use it's debit card to create my Google Play account. Neither these bank's DC worked for opening the account nor for purchasing apps.

I can easily purchase any apps from windows and windows mobile store using my debit card, and another one thing I wanna add for you that apps are not such expensive that you can't buy and currency conversion don't apply here because 0.99$ apps are still selling for 55 Rupees so I do not see your point. It is the application on which success of any Operating system should rely on, Look what happened with Windows Mobile.
Resect the hard work of developers, they deserve it.

I have purchased 7 games using my debit card on play store India when at new year a lot of great games were on sale. It's your bank which is creating a problem. Not play store. I have also made several in-app-purchases using the same debit card

RBI policies don't allow Debit Cards to be used at International Websites and services. Credit Cards and International Debit Cards from HDFC & STANDARD CHARTERED Banks can be used to make payments at International sites. I myself buy apps from Google Play using HDFC International Debit Card. Also you really think that even if it was possible to buy apps using standard debit cards, people would actually buy the apps? Most of the applications have high price due to currency conversion. And Apps are still just app. They are still to become mainstream products like physical goods.
