Tim Cook talked to PM of India and also address the price issue after 6S was costliest in India compared to other countries! Hope prices will come down slightly but don't expect US like prices :P

AnonD-491036, 20 Jan 2016I think it would be a welcome move and we might expect more... moreMore likely: same price as everywhere, outsourced warranty service, which will depend on local people's skills and abilities. Just the same as everywhere. Pay extra for extra warranty and faster service.

Indians are everywhere, better to ask your relatives/friends, much cheaper price but no 1st party service.

I think it would be a welcome move and we might expect more price correction and better service for apple products and might as well be able to get apple worldwide warranty here in India.

                    Lol

Microsoft employs lot of Indians so Indian government should give tax cuts to their Surface laptops, and phones.
And what about BMW, Toyota, Lenove, Food items,

AnonD-252981, 20 Jan 2016Unfortunately the prices will not suddenly go lower. It is ... moreWhen it comes to the app store, all prices are market related and do include the various countries taxes, however when it comes to the physical hardware, having official Apple store in your country always helps prices, for example your stores in south africa aren't owned by Apple, your website isn't even run by Apple. It's all through a third party vendore who will be branded as "an official Apple reseller"

Unfortunately the prices will not suddenly go lower. It is the different countries' tax laws that cause devices to cost a lot in some countries compared to others and not the manufacturers.

Like people in the US they keep saying for a good android phone, get a Nexus. The problem becomes that in a lot of countries the Nexus devices are not available and when you buy them via locally selling online store you get to pay just as much as other devices.

For example I'm in South Africa, what happens is when you buy an app VAT gets added on checkout so whatever price you see on the App Store / Play Store you always have to add 14% to it.

And when it comes to devices, then there are import duties and tax , on top of that add our weakening currency and you get a recipe for disaster.
