It is a zoom lense- it has more glass - on full zoom the aperture has to be bigger to let in more light the smaller the aperture number the more light it allows through. F stops are double the light for each stop

I was really interested in this phone when was announced but delay of more thank a year cooled me down. Too late Asus. Next time, prepare product and release shortly after announcement or do not announce at all if you're not ready.

Reiki, 21 Jan 2016I'm kind of doubtful in regards of a cammera with that appe... moreI bought this phone in Taiwan, and I can say the SoC is as fast as Galaxy s5 from geekbench 3 which is enough for the price range, and the 4GB ram really help A LOT. I went to TW on vacation I was surfing or watching youtube all the time in the Metro using unlimited 4G which cost around USD$ 35 and I used it for taking picture/ video, googling, maps, listening music and apps for site seeing and eating. I mostly go out at 10 am and return around 9 pm and I can still have around 15% of battery.

i dont understand the design mindset for Asus, again 3000mAh. too small for nowadays usage especially when you mentioned this is for photo shooting. battery size does matter , Asus!!

I'm kind of doubtful in regards of a cammera with that apperture.
I don't really know much about intel SoCs, but at least in PCs they excel on saving energy and not overheating so I hope that's the case on phones too. I'll check in a deeper way after I'm off work.

Funny, but the source cited for this article (Android Central) lists the Intel Atom Z3580 as the SoC. Is there even such a thing as a Z3590?

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2016too small aperture. nexus 5x/6p has same sensor size n lens... moreDoesn't matter, these cameras work differently and it all depends on Sensor size. Look at DSLRs, they come with a cheaper f/3.5-5.6 lens yet capture more light than my G4's 1.8 aperture.

too small aperture. nexus 5x/6p has same sensor size n lens is f2.0 which is double the light at night

The only put F2.7 lens. That will not be able to compete with other flag ships.
People want zoom, and the good quality lens. It is not big deal to add another
$50 to get a good quality lens.
