Motorola looking better in Q1 2010 but loses top spot in the US

30 April, 2010
Motorola's financial results are out - the mobile phone division is still in the red zone but there's a noticeable improvement over last year's. And they still have time to improve further before the planned split in two...

Bah apple only got higher results due to people not knowing what they get when they buy things , the ratio for people who know that is horrible

FireDragon, 01 May 2010As much as I with you on first part, I don't like the secon... moreThe thing is, Google need to make the decision to go in house with hardware soon, because they will have to do something similar to Apple, when in the next 10 years it will be software feature based, over camera's and the like. People now recognise since the iPhone changed the industry, that a mobile should be a mini communications device, rather than a swiss army knife. Everyone knows a cheap camera off the shelf will demolish any phone camera, despite MP etc... So it would be beneficial to google to start developing their own hardware, or buy someone like motorola and be able to maximize their software performance. Companies like Nokia, Samsung and LG will all have their place, selling in the lower to mid market, but the smartphone market will be dominated by Google, Apple and maybe if they really get there act together, Microsoft. They will be the only ones with the expertise and vision to know which way is forward in that market.

Not a single phone on the life blood payg market in the UK is any longer made by Motorola. I think they had the V3, years ahead of it's day, still a fantastic phone! But, even looking at the latest handsets, they have I feel lost the plot. SHAME, as the design quality, and to a good degree build quality was American phone's at their best. Should have not gone down the bargain basement market, and made crafted ultra designer phones. You were GREAT, I live in hope. Not keen on latest models. You tried the crafted range, too expensive, the cheap range, how about the equiv of the V3, middle market again?

In your face gsmarena because moto kept losing and SE didn't lose a penny this time. I hope this make you realize that SE is really a special and unique company so stop being biased towards it.

Maybe google should just buy them out, so they don't have to get their phones by the rubbish quality of HTC.

Moto (mobile devices) is still in red and with that kind of top management I think they will stay there for a long time. If you lay-off most of the best people (what they did more than year a go) you reduce the costs on the short term but on the long term the company will be destroyed. The company who is not extending is convict to ruin. That is a fact.

Motorola still releases P2K and Linux phones like the QA1 Karma and QA4 Evoke, so I hope they'll make other budget touchscreen devices soon. Focus though should be with the release of even better Android devices, basing their success on the Droid.

                    Finally...someone has to say that!
Today even the most Infamous and non popular websites have their respective sign up systems but GSMArena.com one of the best(probably best)Mobile phone web sites with the best and broadest features, reviews and tons of news articles(not to mention useful blogs)lacks this basic system.
as for me I'm using this site for years now, about 4 or 5 years and obviously GSMA's age is more than 5 years those years there were no such thing and today still not!!so i think this nice site is grown enough and it's time to be more serious...

I just recall a Chinies movie I saw just a week back, which was based on Cellular. In this movie they show-off Motorola handsets just like in Cellular they covered many of Nokia's phone.

They did great indeed with two of their models that changed many things for them and for Andriod. But they need to pack another punch. Just one punch, good and solid. I hope they wont go after the trend of slim and compromise the battery life while doing it.
