Just a thought, but might the contacts at point 3 on that image also be a device to emulate Chip & Pin chips so this device can work in Europe (and anywhere else that system is used)? They seem to be in the right kind of position.
That'd put it heads above the last "smart credit card" I saw which was aimed squarely at the US Market and lacked any such security.

This is the stupidest idea I've ever seen. Why not just use contactless cards that require no charging? It's obviously going to be thicker than a regular card so you're not even making your wallet thinner by buying one unless you carry a hell of a lot of cards. Most people have about 2-3 and it takes all of 5 seconds to put a PIN in and contactless is virtually as quick as you can put your card on the terminal. I will admit older people do struggle with PINs and don't usually go with high end handsets with fingerprint sensors, etc but even they probably wouldn't use this. They prefer cold, hard cash. The next generations have all lived with paying with plastic for a long time and following generations will have their phones and contactless cards... WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS PRODUCT, SERIOUSLY?!

I really like the concept. Really. But now we have one thing to add to not forget to charge. I live long enough to see the day we need to plug in and recharge our credit card. What's next? Introduce a rechargeable paper? Rechargeable shoes? Maybe you need to recharge the door before you could open it too. I mean, how much battery can the card hold before it loses it charges? Answer me please.

now this is one thing usefull. just hope this card has biometric system to lock and unlock. better yet two finger simultaneous read function for an even more stronger lock (two fingers from the same hand have to match for the card to unlock). nice concept LG hat off from me.

Doesn't this raise privacy issues. Rather than trying to improve convenience by reducing the number of credit cards a cardholder carries, more emphasis should be placed on making the cardholder the sole user or choose users of the credit card.
