A lot of if's, but's and maybe's in this report. Best wait for the hardware tests to confirm or debunk this rumour. Especially considering the questionable recent credibility of the person making this claim.

.alpha, 29 Jan 2016That's max auto-brightness or max user-selectable brightnes... moreProbably selectable brightness since auto brightness only works in certain situations

Well 17 hours is fun at full brightness, but is it with max volume too ?
nobody wants to watch 17 hours of videos without sound

damn, watching full brightness 17 hours of video on my samsung galaxy s7 ... the battery behind that tech must be some kind of world wide electricity network where all kind of people can make use of by just pluggin in their cables .......

I call bollocks on this. Only a 10% efficiency increase over the chip used in the S6. The S6 gets 12 hours video playback @ 50% brightness and he reckons the S7 get +5hours more @ 100% brightness, yeah right! If the S7 has a 1080p screen and 4500-5000mAh battery then MAYBE. But in all likelihood and realistically will not have those specs and will not achieve 17 hours playback time...anyway.

That's max auto-brightness or max user-selectable brightness? That's two very different thing. Android users are locked down so they don't have access to full brightness on their phone unless the phone says so.

Not sure how many people really need it. Improved stand-by time would be useful for everyone, but sadly it's not great on Samsung phones even with all communications (except 2G) turned off. It's really silly that device loses 5-6% of charge in half of day while completely idle and not connected to Wi-Fi, 3G or Bluetooth.

Anonymous, 29 Jan 2016What's the point in that do Sammy thinks some will watch mo... moreIt's battery life, likely that will be the same amount of time you'll be able to browse the web. Plus the screen eats most of the battery and if 17h is achievable it will make android phones last 3-5 times as much on a full charge.

That is one strong battery. Energy-efficiency means less trips to the wall outlet, and less environmental impact. It's a small effect, but the small things add up.

Seventeen hours of video playback on max brightness would rank S7 not among the best but actually THE BEST!! Please, use more accurate wording.
