OK ok everyone! I've never owned a smartwatch but makes sense that they all have microphones for Google Now to function.
Not a fan of either the Huawei or the new Asus watch so this article isn't that relevant to me.
I'm quite amazed there are so few watches with speakers!

;-) If you had a Bluetooth headset, you have always had the full call function, even before you had the watch. There's no need to even talk into the watch's microphone.
This article just says basically states that people with the Huawei or Zenwatch 2 can now essentially use the watch itself to replace a Bluetooth headset.

My Sony Smatchwatch 3 has a mic but no speaker. What if it is paired up with a Bluetooth headphone. Would that work?

Gibby, 04 Feb 2016The information in this article doesn't make sense. How c... moreThe update is for all Android Wear smart watches, but it just so happens that Asus Zenwatch 2 and Huawei may have had an insight of the future Android Wear updates that compelled them to included speakers in their newest watches. Those individuals with Asus Zenwatch 2 and Huawei will benefit the most from the upgrade until other wearable companies start releasing new watches with speakers and consumers start buying them.

So yes it was appropriate that ASUS and Huawei were mentioned because they are the only confirmed Android Wear smart watches to date that have speakers.

How c... moreLol, what they meant was - The update brings the support to all the smartwatches that already have built-in speakers (like the one by Huawei). Of course, the update may not be useful for the ones that do not have built-in speakers (like the ones by Moto).

The information in this article doesn't make sense.
How can an update for watches with just speakers make it possible to make calls?
Surely the watch would require a speaker AND a microphone?!?!?
Can someone pls clarify?
