12 February, 2016
Less than a week after there were reports that Google is planning to launch a Samsung Gear VR competitor later this year, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Mountain View, California-based company is also working on a standalone VR headset.

The front speakers are very loud and performance is top notch. Can't properly digest they failed on the display part. Anyway.

Seriously, where is this guy coming from? You must be from alternate universe where everything is low tech and lots of poor people. Your opinion is obviously base on a pessimistic view of "It can't". Try to be more neutral next time to convince us.

ethereal, 12 Feb 2016Best amoled displays?? Tell this to nexus 6p users. Nexus 6p display is made by Samsung. But Samsung devices (Note 5, S6..) have better displays because they use Samsung's own software optimization which is not available in other devices

This is what VR should have been developed as all along, and shame on OculusVR for being so near-sided (pun intended) that they don't see the mega- flop that's going to be Oculus Rift (the Vive will be an even bigger flop).

And please, don't tell me it's going to be a success because a bunch of people who comment on tech-blogs say they're going to buy one. Does anyone actually know what percentage of the population comments on tech blogs? Newsflash: It's not a lot. Newflash #2: Some people actually bought the N-Gage and liked it. It also stands as one of the biggest flops in digital entertainment history. Why? Because it was too ahead of it's time and WAAAY too expensive.

The Oculus Rift is way, WAAAY too expensive AND requires PC know-how that 90% of the population doesn't have AND is cumbersome to wear AND is tethered! I don't think you people understand... IT CAN'T... SUCCEED... not in this universe or any alternate ones. OK, well maybe in a universe where everyone is filthy rich and has too much time on their hands, but how likely is that?

Google Cardboard and its clones were a good start to get mobile VR development underway, but in the long-term using your phone as a VR display is just as ridiculous as using your desktop PC as the brains. Mobile CPU/GPU technology is already sufficient to provide compelling, standalone VR experiences without the many caveats that Oculus, Vive, and GearVR bring to the table.

But why did it take so long for a big company to figure this out? Heck, why did it take Google so long to figure it out?

                Sigh... rant out.

I would rather use my Gear VR with my Note 5. I always by Galaxy Note, So Gear VR would be an excellent and cost effective choice. Note 6 will most likely have 4K display. Samsung builds the world's best super AMOLED displays.
