To me compact phone is just that "compact", so around 100x50, those have long ceased being produced in the smartphone era.
A regular phone is one that can be used one-handed relatively easily. Only a handful were made like this (iphones until 5s, droid mini and a few others).
A big phone is one that can be used one handed when stretched. There is a good amount of them. Moto X, iPhone 6/6s, probably Galaxy S series ... Etc.
...aaand everything else is phablet. Most of what people own are phablets. We all call them phablets, but two handed phones are still phablets...

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2016The xperia z5 compact is a good alternative The Z5c have too much glass, in my opinion, and is still bigger than a 4'' phone. For me, a compact phone has to measure 120mm x 60mm, more or less, and I don't care a lot about the thickness.

Wintel 2in1s are great to replace your laptop, but can't compare with iPad for content consumption. So yeah, iPad is not a waste of money if you already have a laptop (and therefore don't need another wintel device).

There are compact alternatives out there, but too low end to be pleasant to use.
