Curious date bug can brick your iPhone pretty badly

13 February, 2016
A rather intriguing phenomenon has been circulating reddit and it has to do with a recently discovered vulnerability affecting most current iPhones. It appears that if you set the date on a 64-bit iOS device to January 1 1970 and then restart it, you get a vicious boot loop. Worse yet, simply restoring the unit through DFU can't fix the issues and you will most likely end up on a trip to the nearest Apple Store.

KingofDogstyle, 15 Feb 2016W...Why would you even WANT to set the phone time back to 0... moreConsider this, most current devices, including the affected Apple tech, rely on NTP servers to automatically set their time and date. If a hacker were to theoretically spoof responses and pose as such a server on a Wi-Fi network, he could potentially kill every current iPhone or iPad on the same network.

W...Why would you even WANT to set the phone time back to 01/01/1970!? Aside from the possibility that'd you'd like to waste some time.

How many people honestly feel like "updating" their time to January 1 1970?

Or buy the tools needed to open the back cover then disconnect the battery and watch on you tube how those guys at iFixIt do the disassembly.

Be a hacker yourself, don't wait for another hacker/s. Come on, void your warranty and be proud of your "new" phone. ;)

the same thing happens with OSX, the system itself is smooth because of it's animations, but loading an app in both windows and OSX, the Windows one is faster, but instead the system overall, feels slower than OSX (in animations). which is why i have both system on my macbook.

Some older people might do put the time way back to that year or later becuase they might look for what day is that special moment they had on that year. So CrApple need to do something about it.
