What a nostalgic post guys. These were good times when phones were phones, and not huge flat pieces that break with a single drop.

Sony Ericsson made a huge impression to me with W550 and it's 3 speakers. Back then most cared about volume and speakers. W550 is the loudest phone ever existed. at 106db and 3 speakers it really was loud. These were the days..
No other phone so far cames even close to W550's loudness, maybe W995 but even that wasn't that loud.

Good good times. I miss that time when people weren't walking zombies

I think many many users want a midrange phone which has
                      1. Snapdragon 400 series latest processor
                      2. Good front and back camera which takes decent pictures for normal usage.
                      3. Removable battery
                      4. Micro sd expansion
                      5. HD AMOLED display 5"
                      6. Stereo speakers
                      7. Fingerprint scanner
                      8. Marshmallow os without bloatware which is light on ram
                      9. 2GB RAM, 16 GB internal
                      price - upto $200-250
But no companies are producing such phones.

I truly miss all these a lot. Thank You GsmArena for bringing a very meaningful throwback! I remember the days when I even draw some of the beautifully designed smartphones, because I find them that time to be really unique and sleek. And I absolutely agree that "The design was bold and innovative and in a lot of ways really emphasized how much more diversified phones were back in the day, as opposed to today's "slate" design."

I hope to see more from you!! And now that we notice how technology is changing fast, it is quite exciting what's in store for us in the next few years to come. I hope that the design can still change and bring back the more "diversified" look of our smartphones.

You forgot a small company out of Taiwan introduced their Windows Mobile v5 touch screen phone, the Dopod 838Pro. This company later became known as HTC.

Too bad nobody in Microsoft had the vision to see the potential of the smartphone market. Their support back then, as with successor versions of their mobile operating systems, was terrible. Microsoft's business strategy is at least partially to blame. Like their desktop operating system, there were multiple versions of the product available. Unlike their desktop operating system, support and bug fixes rarely came, if ever.

Given a big more vision and effort to do it right they could have continued to dominate the market, given they had at least a 4 year head start on IOS and Android.
