Operating systems based on Linux are called "distributions" and you can download one for free and install it on your PC or Mac instead of (or together with, as dual boot) Windows or OS X. You get security, stability, customization, most software you need for normal work, good looks and no viruses, bloatware or spyware. Distributions are different in their choice of default programs and desktop environment (interface, Ubuntu interface is called Unity) and some other things but any can run any Linux program. Other famous distros are Linux Mint, Debian, Fedora, Manjaro, Arch Linux etc, etc. Around 2% of PCs are powered by Linux, 2/3 servers and it's used by companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, NSA, NASA, Tesla, SpaceX, CERN, some governments, some institutions etc as their main operating system.
