Apple took home over 90% of mobile profits last year

Mediocre hardware keeps the manufacturing costs small and it's compensated by good optimization of the OS and powerful branding and marketing.
Instead of selling phones with 300ppi IPS panels, they just call them "retina" displays and suddenly the outdated hardware is selling like hot cakes.
Smart.

1- I am not sure if these numbers are real or not, and it reflects the global mobile profits in 2015 of not.
2- if this is the case, I would believe that the profits of Apple would be more than other companies (not necessarily 91%) due to the following reasons:
-Apple makes (design) the hardware including the SoC and the software while other companies pay for the software licensing or and buy the ready made SoC (it is clear that if the soc is yours you will bay less than if you buy it from another firm).
-All Apple products are high end, there is no mid-range or low price products (unlike others even samsung) this makes the profit margin more (example: if the net profit is 25% of the smartphone price, then more profit with a smartphone which costs 800$ than 150$) even if samsung is achieving more in both sale value in dollars and number of units sold.
-Apple pricing is fixed in almost all countries and there is no much change in smartphone price in the same year. compare this to samsung S6 for example (I bought 2 phones 6 month apart with two different prices 700$ and 400$ respectively, which is never the case with Apple products (unless if it is models of 2 years back).

PK, 15 Feb 2016This Information is totally corrupted...
Huarwei made $2... moreNot really corrupted... but it's possibly manipulated or inaccurate.
Most likely, this is the latter and is only looking at 1 region.
Reason being is that Sales are NOT that high for Apple in India, China and Russia - the former 2 being the TOP or largest Mobile market globally.

Make a phone at $150, r&d = $50, pay everyone else = $200
So, total = $400
Selling price = $800
So profit = so much
Samsung sold >= Apple sold
Apple Market share = 90 %
People still buy apple

This Information is totally corrupted...
Huarwei made $20 billion from it's mobile & tab division in 2015
Oneplus, xiaomi & many more companies making huge profit by selling phones.
It's true that Apple making huge money but that will never exceed more than 50% of the mobile market's profits.
Samsung "S" series priced similar to iPhone's price__ so profit should be much more closer to each other.

AnonD-128245, 15 Feb 2016Extremely overprice is the main reasonBut certainly you can realize that that isn't the case, right? Why, if all of these repeat buyers felt as though the iPhone is extremely overpriced, then the sales would reflect that, would they not?
However, it's just the opposite. Buyers believe they are getting a very capable mobile, especially for what the average consumer wants to do. We here, on GSM arena are actually in the minority of pouring over every spec, or lack thereof, such as display PPI, benchmark scores, CPU's, GPU's, camera sensor size, etc etc. These specs simply don't matter to the average buyer and it appears that they Apple aren't concerned about blowing their technology wad all in one shot.
Apple's new motto should be:
"Don't hate cause we won't innovate"
They truly have the mobile market by the short and curlies Haha.

AnonD-249419, 15 Feb 2016There is no balance in this and it means this will end soon... moreI could not agree more. I use to buy every iPhone once it came out...but they just kept getting more expensive without delivering real value. What I hated from the beginning was their closed garten and closed everything. I then moved from the iPhone to a sony phone and ever since that day, I never even for one second regretted that decision.

AnonD-491808, 15 Feb 2016Becuase Apple just keeps releasing new crap that is just th... moreOoohh.... So that's the secret to controlling the mobile market. Just release the same crap each year... Just. Release. The. Same Crap. Each. Year. Why, that sounds a lot like a play taken from Samsung's playbook, although they never controlled 90% of mobile profits.... Hmmm It's so freakin' easy that it just may actually work. You sir, are some kind of mobile savant.
Let's take that in for a second, shall we?..Apple did this feat with.. Wait for it... TWO DEVICES.
Same crap, overpriced crap, rehashed crap, ripped off crap... call it what you want but the other OEM's would love to have that kind of success... No matter how it was obtained.
Now cue the crybabies citing how unfair it is lol.

There is no balance in this and it means this will end soon (i hope). World without balance is chaos. Of course they make the most profit out of it. Just look at other companies price tag then compare it to iPhones. They are no hero nor strongest. They just know how to use people's trust and turn it to profit. This is how we live. I'm thinking about those poor workers and their families which most companies are firing them because of no profit. I don't know why some people sell their kidney's to buy iPhone. Something is deeply wrong with us. As long as we think like this there always be Apple-like companies to squeeze the hell out of you. I personally think apple is a 2-headed snake which knows how to play with your mind.

Hopefully their reign will not last long - like Microsoft's did. Anyway they are doomed on medium term, only marketing cannot be sustainable in an (more and more) open market. Unless they have again a major breakthrough in the next years, like app store was. the Google/Facebook perspectives are much scarier ...

AnonD-491808, 15 Feb 2016Becuase Apple just keeps releasing new crap that is just th... moreYou reckon Samsung is doing anything different? Same design with touch-wiz and trying to lock down OS like apple(with no sd card and removable batteries etc).
If it works its good business. Apple have locked down OS but it is making 9x more profit than android OS. You can say what you want but 91% profits going to apple is the bottom line.
